This is one of three painted works while on a road trip from my hometown to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada. I have lived my entire adult life in Springfield, Missouri. It is a part of my heritage. I totally understand and love the mid-western culture. What most people don't know about me, is that ingrained in this gal from the Ozarks is a Hispanic heritage from a childhood that was mostly lived in Venezuela. I am equally as comfortable and at home in a multicultural environment. That is what I have found here in my visit to New York and Toronto, Canada. Today was a most beautiful day spent in Kensington Market-Toronto. This one is for you! I see a world that is happy, friendly and where people love one another. It has much color! Each painting has it's story. This one had a good start but then for whatever reason I left it. I think it may have been the holidays? Anyway, I lost my stride and inspiration for it and set it aside. Here we are months later, many paintings later and I decided one day to pick it up. The basic color scheme stayed the same but it changed a lot. 

The title came to me as my husband walked into the studio just as I was finishing up and remarked, "oh, that's a pretty one". There you go, Pretty One!

As I was beginning to feel finished with this painting and stood back for some perspective, my reaction was "OH what a delight!" I knew then, that it was completed.  The title has been derived from the word delight.  A feast of color!

I've been working on a few commission paintings lately and so that has taken up some of my regular painting time.  Thursday and Friday's are reserved Penny days!...no painting.  Well, except for the occasional break into grandma's supplies! She is four now and I am looking forward to the day we can paint together. This is a painting from 2012 and is one of my favorites.  Lots of surface texture created with thick paint, a palette knife...and COLOR!!

Reflections....  One thing I do now know for sure is that the bottom line as an artist is that you  have got to keep producing.  Lately, I've been reflecting back on the very beginning of this new chosen career of mine which begun five years ago and can actually laugh at myself, as I began without any technical knowledge or inventory.  One thing I knew, for my part it was going to take a lot of hard work and belief in what I was doing.  I spent my first summer....literally working from 8-5 , just as if it was a regular job.  The first half of my day was spent painting realistic florals and the other half of the day was spent learning the beginnings of how to market a product, working a digital camera,  transferring images online, starting a blog, sites to list on, how to list, pricing etc.,  How much did I make that first year for all my effort?!..well let's just LOL together!

A Celebration.... of the arts.  This painting was part of a live demonstration which I was asked to participate in two years ago as a celebration of the arts at the airport.  As an orchestra played in the background, I painted with a palette knife to the feel of the music.  I was not all that sure about painting in front of people watching me, but with the music playing I became focused on the orchestrating of color.  This is another painting that I have placed in my Year End Specials.

Small yet bold....the majority of these small abstracts are painted with a palette knife.  I may begin with a brush but somehow most always end up with a palette knife in my hand layering and mixing paint on the canvas. This one has some embellishment done with the caps from tubes of paint printed into the wet paint creating the circles.
