Limited palette abstract painting "Lily"

Lily
Acrylic on 36 x 48 canvas

SOLD

I painted this one shortly after the new year in 2018.  I was challenging myself to work with a limited color palette with yellow green being the mostly color. I moved through it swiftly quickly making color choice decisions. I did not have any idea of what the outcome would be as I began the painted other than the color palette that I just mentioned. In the end it turned out to remind me much of a Monetish lily painting. It has sold, but I am offering it as a print on Fine Art America. To have a print made of "Lily" click: HERE.

Below are a few pics of this painting in it's process of becoming the completed painting.

Someday Soon

Someday Soon
48 x 48 x 1.5 inch canvas
Acrylic

Specially requested- SOLD

This painting will eventually be stretched on stretcher bars with a 1.5" depth sides. It is a canvas that was secured to the wall. Markings can be seen where the 48 x 48 edges of the painting will be seen. It will be shipped in a tube. Message me if interested in a commissioned piece.

There's a smile followed by a celebration that takes place when an artist has completed a painting! That moment. I'm very happy with this one.  I often get asked "how do you know when a painting is finished?" For me, it's when i feel as if I just can't add one more color or mark. Sure, I've crossed that line before and..hey it's ok we're just off to the making of another painting. It will work out. A painting can have many lovely places to be done at. This is just where I have chosen to be be. Now time to sit back, enjoy and celebrate!! Cheers! 🍷😊. More of my completed celebrations can be seen and/or purchased from my website: elizabethchapmanartwork

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Somewhere
11 x 15 Acrylic on heavy paper

Available from my website: HERE

"Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true."  --E.Y. Harburg

I'm a dreamer. It's true. Perhaps it's a part of the reason that I love to create as I can take an idea(s) and make them come true on the surface of a canvas. As in this painting "Somewhere", available by clicking:HERE. I also believe that there are plans and purposes for our lives and when we connect with the Creator they are revealed to us as the desires of our hearts. They do come true, so dream on!

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37:4

It's not the long walk home but the welcome I receive....'Welcome Home' abstract painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Welcome Home

32 x 40 inch canvas

Available

It's not the long walk home that will change this heart, But the welcome I receive at the restart"--Mumford & Sons

Painting is much like a dialogue that is carried on between myself and each mark, color, shape, etc., that is placed on the canvas. For it tells me what to add next, change or take away. Layers upon layers. Sometimes it means not being afraid to cover and re-start the painting continuing until one day that magical moment arrives as if it is saying- Welcome Home. (available by clicking: HERE)

It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

THANK YOU!!

I feel as if I could just step right into this one, so inviting.  It's a change in a different direction for me. I can't necessarily say that I was in my comfort zone, yet I did have fun. Might look easier than it was.  I'm experimenting with using markers for line work on acrylic paintings. The markers are acrylic as well, so don't have to worry about them fading in time. The emphasize this month still being working with mostly yellow. One thing I've learned this month is that mostly doesn't necessarily mean a lot, especially when working with an intense color.

Enjoy!!

I am really so behind with posting my paintings on this blog. I paint nearly everyday completing 1-2 large paintings/week. It seems as if I keep quite busy with life as well. Once a painting is completed there is the photographing, editing and then listing it on various sites. There is a lot of behind the scenes things taking place with being an artist. This seems to be the one site that gets neglected. When I first began painting back in 2009, blogging was all new to me and I was writing/posting nearly everyday! I'm going to try to do better, but for now...what do you think of this painting?

i had a lot of fun painting it!

If your interested in seeing a complete portfolio that would include paintings that I may have missed posting on this site, visit my website: HERE

Thanks for viewing! and if you've been following since 2009 an extra, extra...extra, thank you!!

Modern Expressionistic Abstract Painting "Ingress" by Elizabeth Chapman

Ingress
Acrylic on 30" x 40" canvas

SOLD!

I am happy to have sold this painting to a local business where it will hang to be enjoyed by it's clients.  Over the past years I have had a few places in town that have asked me to hang. I really don't mind as it gets my inventory out from my studio storage (freeing space for more paintings!) and the public is given the opportunity to enjoy the paintings.  This particular painting was one of a group that was hanging at The Specific Source in Springfield, Mo.

I got to know Dr. Nathan because of a dog that I have that hurt his back (nerve damage) leaving him without usage of his back legs. I had been working with and trying some different things when some one told me about this chiropractor that was willing and liked to help animals.  I began taking Monty in (before the regular clientele arrived)  to get his back adjusted and during this time I was asked if I would hang some of my paintings in their business. Of course.  One year later, I went to pick up my paintings in order to give another artist the opportunity to hang there.  Dr. Nathan just couldn't seem to let this one go. SOLD!!

It is so very special to me when I sell a painting in my hometown of Springfield, Mo.

As for, Monty he does from time to time have partial use of his back legs. It can be said that they are better than they were a year ago, but still it has been an ever so slow process. I am still holding out hope that he will walk again. Patience.

Continuing to showcase a few of these that I have done on heavy paper. It is Arches 156lb acid free watercolor paper often gessoed before painting on it.  A friend pointed out to me how it reminded her of the coastline near Sydney, thus the title.  I just love to play with color, shapes, line, etc., it's an adventure for me. Where ever the painting takes you, well that's your adventure!! Enjoy.

Spontaneous.

Singsong
Acrylic on 22" x 30" paper
(ready to frame)
Available

Speaking for myself here. Some paintings are a zippy zip, started and finished so quickly. Others are matter of layering and time and then there are few that may take a few years before the painting is revisited and finally reaches completion. These two I'm posting were very quickly created. Spontaneous works of art.

Seminal
Acrylic on 30" x 30" canvas
SOLD

This second was actually intended to be an underpainting. I posted it on instagram and it was so loved the way that it is, that it made  me think about perhaps leaving it. Maybe it's the energy or boldness.

"So, when is a painting completed?" seems like an age old question. Again, speaking for myself...I always feel it's important to go with the flow of the painting rather than devising some sort of formula. It's not about how much time it took, but more about whether it is working or not. Sometimes, well often for me...the hardest part can be that of letting go. Especially when it happens so quickly.

On the other end of the spectrum there is the problem of maybe overdoing a painting. Again, it's the knowing when to stop. BUT, if you should take that risk and pass that point there will always be another spot of completion. Just keep going till you reach the next ahha moment.

A spontaneous, Ah yes...I love it moment!!

rainbow water

Rainbow Water
Acrylic on 36" x 36" canvas

This one was a collaboration between grand-daughter/grandma. We began it together with me painting while Penelope sprayed with water. As you can imagine, lots and lots of runs! She titled it. I decided to keep the title, but later took the painting on past that first stage. Every painting has a story.

We had so much fun! hope you enjoyed the story...elizabeth

Feeling fall in the air here.  This is a very large painting for me! However, I do find it easier to work on larger canvases than small ones.  I feel as if if this one has an atmospheric and landscapish feeling to it.  Kinda like a cool autumn breeze on a mountain side.

Listening to music and painting. As you can imagine from my paintings I'm pretty much moving as I paint.  Joyfully dancing!  There is a translation from what I feel and hear to color, shapes, lines and of course movement.  Maybe it's like be a conductor of sorts?.... orchestrating who plays what and when, bringing the whole into harmony. Enjoy!!

snuggle party.

Vesture
Acrylic on 30" x 40" canvas

ORIGINAL 2016

For more information and purchasing availability contact me: elizabethchapman@artlover.com

Initial inspirations can come from some of the most unusual places.  Our grand daughter had laid out nearly every pillow in the house on the living room floor to have a snuggle party.  It looked pretty cool with all the various sizes, colors and shapes. Instantly, I saw a painting! Those were the beginning marks and color that were placed on the canvas. Layer by layer the changes took place.
