"Just keep taking chances and having fun." Garth Brooks

Being a creative is all about taking chances and having fun along the way.  I really don't know any other way there is to be original than being willing to be yourself.  To let go.  Remember the song from just a few years ago...'let it go, let it go'   Definitely easier said than done. I was reminded of this while painting this morning. It seems like the painting really begins to take on a life of it's own once I let go of all expectations and that includes my own as well.  The crossing over where the creative mind takes over and it feels like your on autopilot. Taking chances and having fun are happening right before your eyes.  Oh sure, there are always negative thoughts to be dealt with. I have found that most usually when I get to thinking that things aren't going so well, what an ugly painting this is is usually when it is actually working out pretty good. Step back, get away and come back before deciding. You might just surprise yourself! I do.

have fun...and enjoy! elizabeth

fun scene.

Scene
Acrylic on 22" x 22" paper, unframed

More abstracts on paper can be seen in my Etsy shop: HERE

I have added several more abstracts on paper to my Etsy store. (link above) The majority of my paintings are on canvas, but now and then I enjoy changing it up and working on a different support. The paper that I use is Arches 156b acid free watercolor. These paintings are sold unframed. I do price them about half of what they would be on canvas considering there is going to be the added expense of framing. There are so many different ways to prepare these for display making it more of a personal choice.  The paintings are lightly coated with an acrylic polymer varnish and would do just fine without placing them under glass.

Fun time painting this scene with lots of layers, scratching through to underneath layers, overlaid drawing with oil pastel and graphite pencil.....and there's that pink again!!

less is more...

Sweet Dreams
Acrylic on 30" x 30" canvas

Private collection

This painting was a gift created for my daughter Elsie with a specific color palette request.  The painting will go in her bedroom  that is being designed with coziness in mind for her home in Nashville, Tennessee.  Compositionally, she challenged me to work with less and with limited color.  Definitely a more minimalist approach for me.

To be honest, I really wasn't sure and thought that I would get really bored painting this as it isn't (hasn't) been my approach style. But, I love her and wanted to do this for her.  I surprised myself!  I found working with a limited color palette and simpler composition forced me to become more engaged with all the subtle variations and overlays.  I found that with it's limitation, I enjoyed and observed the simpler things that were occurring. There was still a painterly decisiveness when applying brushstrokes.

It was a wonderful experience for me which changed and led me to the next collection of paintings that I would be doing. I do know have those completed and photographed, so will begin releasing them....and posting them here!

…. for those of you who love pink.

Somebody else also LOVES pink! We hung work last week at Systematic Savings Bank downtown Springfield, Missouri for the Friday Night Artwalk.  A very talented face painting artist painted a requested PINK bunny on Penny's face.  We spent a wonderful evening greeting and talking art with the local crowd.

impressions....

'Impress'

Acrylic on 24" x 24" x 1.5" wrap canvas

Available for purchase from my Web Gallery

To be honest,  it was another popular painting of mine "Caress" that became the inspiration for this one.   Keeping it light and pastellish is something that I have to keep in mind, as you might imagine once you've seen my colorful abstract paintings.  This is  a softer color palette with more of a minimalist composition  that I would  definitely like to continue to explore in the future.
