I keep meaning to get back to painting abstracts in the red color palettes, but the bright summer colors continue to emerge. This is one of a small series of paintings that I have done on heavy 156lb Arches acid free watercolor paper. Price is great for this size, but they do need to be framed, mounted or whatever creative way you might find to display them.  I reminded here of a garden...can you find the tulips? I will initial these on the front, sign on the back.

This one was a collaboration between grand-daughter/grandma. We began it together with me painting while Penelope sprayed with water. As you can imagine, lots and lots of runs! She titled it. I decided to keep the title, but later took the painting on past that first stage. Every painting has a story.

Finished!! and will be shipped to it's new home in Louisiana  this week!  This is a commission in which I was asked to do a painting similar to a previous one, "Spree" (now in Canada) only larger.   My prep work consisted of going back and remembering what I was thinking when I painted this, to hopefully catch that same mood and technique that I had used.  I pulled out only those jars of color that were used in Spree and selected the same music, Cat Stevens.  Then when all was ready, the work began....

What was I thinking as I was painting this one?....Well, that is how the title came to be...I thought about how closely this one was resembling the first one "Spree" (good since that was what was requested) and how closely they are related, much like sisters.  Which of course made me think of our two beautiful daughters, Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman, sisters, best friends and owners of Red Velvet. My thoughts of how similar they have always been and yet how different as well...

As I was cleaning out my closet this weekend, I found these moccasins of the girls when they were three and five years old.

 As I was painting this abstract I was thinking about how it is so important for ME to BELIEVE in the art making process and that there will be a beautiful painting.  It is so easy to get wrapped up in thoughts that come from the world, rather than allowing myself to be totally engulfed in child like faith.  The result here was a bright and colorful abstract with a child like feeling, playing and having fun.

The title for this painting is interesting and meaningful to me. These are five orchids that we have on our front windowsill that have bloomed this year all at the same time. Orchids are fascinating in the way in which they grow in the rain forests. They are one of my favorite flowers to paint.
