Yes, another floral!  Just been having a great time with these.   I feel as if I have come full circle with the florals.  As I was seriously beginning as a painter, I began with florals in a VERY MUCH more realistic style with watercolors, (many of these can be seen in my first blog entries) then later departing into the abstract realm. This is a smaller gestural painting that I have done as a study for a larger painting that I would like to do.  It was taken while I was with a friend at a local Japanese Garden.  The couple who were so obviously "in love" (thus the title) had just strolled by and stopped to snap this pic. I took my shot from the back side as this women  is kneeling on the ledge and posing for the photograph being taken by her boyfriend (fiance?) from the other side.  Can you see her?

This painting speaks to me at various levels.  There is first of all the appearance of various levels of depth beginning with the largest floral in the top right quadrant moving to the bottom left then to the top left and ending with the smallest bloom in the bottom right quadrant.  I like the movement this creates!  It also speaks to me about life as it cycles through stages each having a beauty of its own.  The inspiration began from a photograph..... but soon departed as the creative flow took hold!!

Another floral!  This week I've been working with a palette knife in a more representational type of painting.  In particlular I've been focusing on a limited complementary palette, working with lost and found edges all the while retaining a gesturally, playful manner.

..... also working on not being so distracted and focusing on the sufficiency of Christ.

I am painting on these smaller canvas panels for my daily paintings in order to stre......tch my supplies and I can also offer VERY reasonably priced fine art to those who like and would like to purchase a small work.  I am continuing to work on the larger canvases and these will be posted on my blog from time to time and will be accessible for purchase through my web gallery.

Actually you could give this one any title you would like to.  It took me a little while.  Is it an inside  or outside scene.  Maybe something about color.... brilliant, vivid, red etc.. I finally settled on 'Street Scene'.   The bottom begins the pathway with a building to the left, leading you through the street and  buildings in the back.  See it?

I have been back and forth to the easel with more ideas for this painting and yet each time my hand just stops.  Presently, it is hanging in our living room (the rotating wall) where I have pondered it's completion.   ..... and I have decided that it is finished.  'The Crossing' is much like my other recent paintings 'Concentre' and 'Equipoise' only it has a softer, lighter feel.  Still working in the warmer earth tones yet with a punch of vivid color. The photograph does not show it, but this painting is loaded with actual texture as well. Well, I'll have to admit that I've been in a bit of a slump lately and haven't been painting, nor posting as much.  Some call it a creative block.  It can be kind of scary in that you feel as if you've lost your desire, confidence, ideas etc... to create.  No creative flow.... oh no.   I've been thinking that maybe this isn't such a bad thing if we would just realize it for what it is.  Just as creativity needs to be nurtured in order to grow, so it needs to rest as well at times in order to grow.  Change is about to occur.  The trouble is that I forget and /or I feel like I've got to be working all the time and continue to work on pushing through and then..... so, I decided to not fight it for a bit and do some other things.

Today though.... I did get back to work!!  Yes, it was exciting- I had this photograph that I had taken at Cider Days and just loved the richness of the  colors in the reds, golds and greens in it, as well as the texture in these flowers, but wasn't sure how to approach it.  Once I began, one idea led to the next and the next, and before long it was  done.  I worked on editing to get the colors as close to the painting but couldn't quite get the reds there.  They are a bit deeper in the painting than the photo shows.   ALSO.... I began another large abstract.  yea!  I will still need to spend some time resolving it.  Good to be back!!

"Both Ways" is a painting that is packed with INTENSE emotion, layers of paint and lots of texture! (Click on photo to get a closer look)  Mostly black and white, with an overall mauve tone and accented with various colors, with red being the strongest.  I would honestly have to admit that this painting was a battle, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised.  We presently have it hanging in our living room, (on a wall we call the rotating wall, the one were we get to enjoy the paintings for a bit before they are gone) but this one would greatly enhance a white wall.

This painting has spoken to me on so many different levels that I could continue to reflect and write about it for quite some time.  Most importantly,  I believe it has brought me to a turning point of introspectively looking at myself and making some personal choices as to what my primary ATTITUDE should be.  Just as this painting could be hung both ways- either horizontally or vertically- a decision has to be made as to which way is the most beneficial direction. If displayed horizontally it loses it's vertical focus and by displaying if vertically it's horizontal emphasize is lost.

Enjoyed this one for a while as it hung in our living room!  I was asked to paint it by my husband,  with the intention of it being a birthday present for my sister-in-law, Karin.  I'll have to admit that I was a bit nervous about painting it as it was to be a surprise and .... well you know.  I knew she liked the Mediterranean (Italian) palette of red, yellow and green and chose to work with those colors, but  other than that I had no other preconceived idea as I began.  I was very pleased with it but it wasn't for me.  We took it to her house on Saturday and gave it to her... and she loved it!!!  It's being displayed above a beige couch in her living room.

As I posted on Friday, it was the First Friday Night Art Walk and the opening night for WAM.  It was such a beautiful night, great music, appetizers and such a great crowd came through to enjoy the art.  We so enjoyed meeting and visiting with everyone.  As an artist I spend a lot of solo studio time and seldom have the opportunity to hear so much feedback.  Everyone was so very gracious!  It reaffirmed in me  about how much of a need there is to have art in our lives and how it helps to connect us to each other.

This piece has also been previously posted but it reminds me of fall and it was one of the floral abstracts that was much admired the other night.  In fact Vibrant l sold a few months ago and with the comments I was hearing about Vibrant ll, I got to thinking maybe it's time to begin on Vibrant lll!

I feel so very honored to be an inducted into this show. As I've been looking back lately and reflecting over this last year. I 've been feeling very thankful for... a solo show in June that was extended into July, bringing quite a few sales, ...my first commission... sales from my blog... friends that have been so gracious.... my supportive husband and family... all encouragement I have recieved along the way.... and yes to you all my blogger friends who have faithfully followed my randomness.  This has not been the best of an economical environment to begin in,  but it has taught perserverance and for that I can be thankful  for as well and so much more ... most of all  to God from whom all good things come from.

Tonight is Friday Night Artwalk and the opening for WAM begins at 6:00 p.m.  So, come out for a great show, wine and appetizers!!

Maze: a confusing, intricate network of winding pathways: labyrinth.

Worked on this one ALL DAY yesterday with many changes occurring throughout the day.  I began at 6:00 in the morning, took a lunch break with my parents and then back to work until supper and then .... needless to say I so obsessed over it yesterday that I woke up early this morning thinking about more changes.  Many of these were recorded as I would photograph the painting and then seeing the image on the screen would help me to see more.  .... and so this went on:)

And so how do you know when a painting is done?  This is a good question and I believe it is different for every artist.   I have discovered that for me it is when I am standing there with brush in hand and can not find another stroke to make.  As far as time wise, this can happen within a very short amount of time or can take for who knows how long.  I got to that point of knowing late last night, but I also know that coming back in the next day with a fresh perspective is what gives me the confidence in knowing it's done.

 Early this morning.... I awoke thinking about yet another change... went in, turned the studio lights on... had a fresh perspective.... and yes!... it's done!!

Definitely strayed from the original floral arrangement. This is a painting that I did over the weekend from some flowers that I had bought at the grocery store on our weekly Saturday morning excursion to Dillon's.  I've been finding flowers in the manager's special and bringing them home, arranging them to paint and then we also get a floral arrangement to enjoy!  Smell good too! I also took some great photos for future references, but I was thinking as I was working at how delightful it is to have real flowers to paint from.  It was this arrangement that I began with, but then somewhere about halfway through I departed from the more realistic version and found it to be quite the delight!!!  Enjoy-
