Busy... busy....busy....is they way it's been around the Chapman household lately... but it's the best kind of busy as it involves family.  I am trusting that the inspirations and time will be provided as needed.

"Canaby"... Modern Contemporary Original Abstract Painting by Missouri Artist Elizabeth Chapman

'Canaby'

Acrylic on 6" x 6" 300lb. paper, $50.00

It's been a while since I worked with acrylics on paper.  These are great exercises in composition and color combinations.  When finished the paintings are sealed with several coats of a sealant gloss and are ready to be framed, with or without glass.  A collection of these would look absolutely awesome displayed on a wall as a grouping.  Just a thought!!... I will be painting more of these and posting them here as well as on my website.   Have a great weekend!...  Enjoy and fill your life with art!!!

Interlace....Modern Contemporary Original Abstract Painting by Missouri Artist Elizabeth Chapman

'Interlace'

Acrylic on 30" x 40" x 1.5" gallery canvas
Available

Lately, I've been working on these larger canvases and concentrating on a different approach in pulling my composition together.  Sometimes this can happen rather quickly for me... but sometimes it's a matter of studying the work, standing back or maybe leaving for a while, then coming back and getting a fresh look.  Many times after a time away I will be able to see the next step.  This is another one of those that I worked with in this approach of layering studying shapes, lines, values... etc. and adding as I went along.

Commission

The fourth and last painting of this series I was commissioned to do. (scroll down to see the others) They were completed last week, shipped earlier this week and should be arriving to their new home in New Orleans.  Working on a commission is a merging between the ideas of the client and the artist. I went on this week to creating another series from this merging, "Quadri"... for a sneak preview, click here. Thank you Rachel... for your ideas and the opportunity to create these for you.  I hope they fill your office space with much enjoyment!

Myriad Two..... Modern Contemporary Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Myriad (2 of 4)
Acrylic on 12" x 12" canvas panels
Commissioned

Well... here is the second painting from this commissioned work. (You can read about it from yesterday's post)  If you are enjoying them.... I have started another series based off this color palette... and will share them soon.  Kinda off the subject but I just saw this recipe on my daughter Emma's blog, "From Scratch" for plaintin chips.  As a child living in Venezuela one of my favorite foods was black beans, rice and fried platanos.  I also could eat a whole bag of these at one sitting!  Yummy...

The Mission..... Abstract Expressionism Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Acrylic on 24" x 48" gallery wrap canvas (1.5" depth)

SOLD

This is that time of year when we are all sooooo busy...... with all the preparations, shopping, gift exchanges, parties, baking, decorating...and .... well you know how it is.  I did stay up one night to paint a large painting that I will be sharing soon, (haven't photographed it yet) and can't hardly wait to post it!! This is one that I did last summer, an oldie, but..... it's been on my mind lately and thought it would be appropriate to share my thoughts as I had finished and stood back to view this painting while it was still on the easel. Given the time of year that we are in, it serves as areminder of the reason for the season.

The painting was completed in two sessions with the first being an underpainting.   Other than the color scheme, I approached this painting with absolutely NO IDEA of its outcome.  As I was listening to music my hand literally danced across the canvas, as  I followed each new idea that popped into my head.  To me this is such a gift... to be able to be a part of the creative process.

I stood back from the easel... and  I immediately saw a manger scene in a city scape.  I have pondered much about this painting since then, but my first thought was how this babe "Jesus" came and was born in a homeless shelter to live a life even to death in the lowliest of conditions.  Why would the  the God of the universe with all His riches choose to live this way?  Perhaps one of those reasons was to leave us with an example to follow....

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.  Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.  Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross.  Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2: 5-11

This painting has been a favorite and I always love hearing how a work of art speaks personally to an individual.  For me, especially through all the business lately, it  has helped to focus my thoughts on the real reason for the season and the celebration of Christmas...love... may it help you as well!!!

....something new.... TONALITY III... Abstract Painting

Tonality III

Acrylic on 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Hawthorn's last night for the first Friday Night Art Walk and the opening of this new December show.  ...... and now it's time to move on!... so I thought I would share some of the newest works.  Tonality III is one of three panels of this series that are being displayed as a set.  I have posted the last one first and will share the middle panel next, so that  later in scrolling down on the blog they will be in order.  I've been working with layering colors and earth tones and of course always thinking about good design.  I'm excited about this new technique and color scheme!! Hope you enjoy them....

'The Crossing' Modern Expressionism Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

'The Crossing'

Modern Expressionism
Acrylic on 30" x 40" (1.5) canvas

To purchase contact: Elizabeth
$400.00

I have been back and forth to the easel with more ideas for this painting and yet each time my hand just stops.  Presently, it is hanging in our living room (the rotating wall) where I have pondered it's completion.   ..... and I have decided that it is finished.  'The Crossing' is much like my other recent paintings 'Concentre' and 'Equipoise' only it has a softer, lighter feel.  Still working in the warmer earth tones yet with a punch of vivid color. The photograph does not show it, but this painting is loaded with actual texture as well. Another feature about this painting is that it can be hung either horizontally or vertically maintaining a strong composition.  To see more of my work visit my web gallery.
