This painting began as a palette knife painting a lot like a previous painting of mine titled "Merge".  I studied it for several days before I went back in, this time with a roller and worked in the horizontals and verticals.  It was also painted with the bottom being the top, but then liked this viewpoint much better.  "Merge" was inspired by a travel show I had seen on T.V of Greece.  Guess I was in my Mediterranean mood again!

"New Love"..... Abstract Expressionistic Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

'NEW LOVE'

This painting has a lot of thick paint and actual texture.  You can click on the image for a closer look.  As with the majority of my abstract paintings I began this one without any preconceived idea.  Many colors were being used which eventually lead to the gray and a scrapping through of the underlying colors giving it a 'scratch art' type of effect.  Various tools including brush, palette knife and roller were used.  When I get into one of these it seems like any object that is lying around might become a tool to be used.  I finished it off with a gesturally line as I began to see the image emerge. We had an absolutely wonderful time at Hawthorn's last night for the first Friday Night Art Walk and the opening of this new December show.  ...... and now it's time to move on!... so I thought I would share some of the newest works.  Tonality III is one of three panels of this series that are being displayed as a set.  I have posted the last one first and will share the middle panel next, so that  later in scrolling down on the blog they will be in order.  I've been working with layering colors and earth tones and of course always thinking about good design.  I'm excited about this new technique and color scheme!! Hope you enjoy them....

A beautiful gorgeous day today here in the Ozarks! It was girls out day this afternoon- spent time together with Sarah and Elsie birthday and baby shopping.  We went to the mall and walked.... and walked..... then Target...... and walked..... then Michael's.... and walked..... maybe baby will be born  tonight?!

Well, this was an unfinished piece till today.  It was one that I had started, but  has been laying around waiting for that one day... today... when it would......all come together.
