Phenom

Phenom
Acrylic on paper
22" x 30"

SOLD

I enjoy trying and working on different surfaces. The canvases are the most practical as having a painting that is then ready to hang. Those that I do on paper will require framing or a way to display them on the wall. The surface is just as durable as that of a canvas. They may be placed under glass but don't necessarily require it.  I do use quality acrylics and finish with several coats of varnish.  Magnet frame boards is one of the newest trends and most economical. It's basically two strips of wood with magnets in them.  One set is placed at the top of the painting and the other at the bottom.  That's it! Ready to hang.

"That's what makes the jukebox play"

Jukebox
Acrylic 24 x 36 canvas
$700

Available from my website: HERE or email me: elizabethchapmanart@gmail.com

"Ninety-nine percent of the world's lovers are not with their first choice. That's what makes the jukebox play." -Willie Nelson

This year(2018) I challenged myself to work mostly with one color each month. With this painting the objective was to work with blue. One result of this challenge is that there are a few colors that I don't typically work with and so it has forced me to step outside my comfort zone experimenting. Blues are always a favorite. Cobalt in particular is one of my first choices as it's a strong bold color as used in this painting, "Jukebox" available by clicking: HERE.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.  Revelation 2:4-5 KJV

"You must not ever stop being whimsical. And you must not, ever, give anyone else the responsibility for your life."  -Mary Oliver, Wild Geese

Walking with God is an adventure. He does with our lives what He will. It can be whimsical. Unpredictable. Everyday is another pathway of which we don't know where it will lead. But one thing is certain. He is in control and He is good. God is love. Rain or shine. Praise Him with all of your might. "Whimsy" is available by clicking: HERE

I am really so behind with posting my paintings on this blog. I paint nearly everyday completing 1-2 large paintings/week. It seems as if I keep quite busy with life as well. Once a painting is completed there is the photographing, editing and then listing it on various sites. There is a lot of behind the scenes things taking place with being an artist. This seems to be the one site that gets neglected. When I first began painting back in 2009, blogging was all new to me and I was writing/posting nearly everyday! I'm going to try to do better, but for now...what do you think of this painting?

i had a lot of fun painting it!

If your interested in seeing a complete portfolio that would include paintings that I may have missed posting on this site, visit my website: HERE

Thanks for viewing! and if you've been following since 2009 an extra, extra...extra, thank you!!

I just paint! Whatever happens is what happens. This one is a small painting but it has lots of layers (paint) creating lots of surface texture. It wasn't that it was intentional, it's just that it took that long for this painting to emerge. Some are quick to find, other's take time.  I would define it as not only having RICH color, but also a rich surface texture. It can be seen by clicking on the zoom feature in my website or click here to see it. What do you think?!

SO, in titling I turned to my hubby who titles the majority of my paintings. Once in awhile, I come up with a good one. smile. Anyway, often he will asked, 'so, what does it remind you of?' To which I replied, 'can't you see it?!' 'it's like swampy, there's a tree, water, kinda has a southern feel to it'. Immediately, he came up with "Bayou"...and that's why we call him 'title man'!

Often times, people will want to know what an artist's thoughts are while painting. With this one it was with the people that are now fighting to survive in the mess that a socialist government leaning towards dictatorship  has created. Having been born a duo citizen the Venezuelan in me is heart broken for what the people in Caracas are enduring. Prayers for these people and the country are interwoven into each brushstroke of this painting. Pray for Venezuela. May they be uplifted.

Titled "Motif" but Cadbury might just be a better fit. My color palette totally changed on a binge with Cadbury eggs. I don't keep sweet around anymore, but I caved in and bought a bag of Cadbury Eggs this year. My favorites and you know there only available one time of year. So secretly kept them in the glove box of my car. For weeks I had done fine with just 2-3, ok 4-5 a day. I was to about a good handful when I binged on the remainder. Next day I go to continue work on a painting and the color palette TOTALLY changed on me. I stood back and thought, "oh my...it's those Cadbury eggs!" ha

Feeling fall in the air here.  This is a very large painting for me! However, I do find it easier to work on larger canvases than small ones.  I feel as if if this one has an atmospheric and landscapish feeling to it.  Kinda like a cool autumn breeze on a mountain side.

This painting is from 2015 and has never been listed.  Back in the summer of 2015 I was contacted by a small gift shop/gallery on the east coast interested in a few of my paintings. This one was fresh off the easel...I loved it! and decided I would send it. So along with a few more paintings we went on an adventure that just did not work out.  I sent many of my best paintings without a single sale in over one year. I believe the rule to go by is six months.  I personally have not had good experiences with brick and mortar galleries. I do work with a few online galleries that have been a wonderful experience.  However, I always prefer to make my sales independently as running through a gallery will cost anywhere from 30%-45% in a commission fee. I know people are often surprised to learn how much a gallery makes from selling a painting.  But, they do promote with ALOT more exposure.

Anyway, "Ingress" is back...and looking to be loved by someone!

Thankfulness.  I try to remember to offer up praises of thanksgiving as I go through each day. The little things.  This time of year, I believe we tend to look at the year as a whole in thinking about what we are most thankful for. Artistically, I am fortunate to have had a wonderful year for selling my paintings. Creating and using the gift I have been given is important to me, but without you I would soon run out of storage space.  Thankful for those who take an interest,  purchase and collect my abstract paintings. Thank you, SO much!!

This one has been reminding me so much of a previous painting that I had done "Just for Fun".  Here, I am not thinking or worrying any about any of "the rules".  This type of painting occurs when there is a need to totally get away and just paint. The kind of creativity that children naturally possess before the "don't color outside the lines" begins to be encouraged. Just let it flow and paint just for fun!  It has been titled Assimila as it is the assimilation of many years of painting.

This painting was done as a demonstration piece that I did for a workshop. It was created using a technique that I developed with my very first abstract paintings. Instead of using watercolors as I had once done, I used high flow acrylic paints. These did a really good job in working much like a watercolor with transparent layers of color. A stencil that I made out of paper was used to print the darkest blues. My way of putting those first marks down. Lastly, I found a place to fit it into the piece becoming a focal point, yet hidden. Can you find it?

BLUE Abstract Expressionistic Painting "West Wind" by Elizabeth Chapman

'West Wind'

Acrylic on 36" x 36" x 1.5" canvas

SOLD

This is an abstract painting that I recently painted for a couple in Laguna, California.  It was painted to have a similar feel to another painting Zephyr, which I painted last winter and sold.  I went back and studied the painting to figure out how and what colors I had used in the mix. A Phathlo Blue is the main color used here.  In keeping things similar, I also listened to the same music...Chopin.
