Golden Harvest by Elizabeth Chapman

I kind of hate to comment on what I see in the abstracts, because I feel like it can take away from what others see. I even think titles can sometimes take away as well. This one reminds me of summertime in the Ozarks, hot, dry and lots of hayfields. What do you see? If interested in this piece contact me at elizabethchapman@artlover.com

Tropical Roots by Elizabeth Chapman

Tropical Roots
Contemporary Modern Abstract
Acrylic on 24" x 36" canvas

The title for this painting is interesting and meaningful to me. These are five orchids that we have on our front windowsill that have bloomed this year all at the same time. Orchids are fascinating in the way in which they grow in the rain forests. They are one of my favorite flowers to paint. Also, having spent my childhood in Venezuela my roots are tropical, which might explain my love for color. If you are interested in this painting please contact me at elizabethchapman@artlover.com

Just Beyond by Elizabeth Chapman

We are so incredibly busy right now moving stuff, cleaning and painting walls. My studio is getting moved upstairs in a bedroom to make room for my youngest son and his family to live in our basement as we help them get through school. I'll post some pics of my new studio when we get done. This is another one from these smaller paintings. It measures 8" x 8" on 300 lb. paper and is ready to be framed. This one could be paired up with yesterday's Mi Casa (my home) or collected for a grouping display of miniature modern abstracts.
If your interested in any of these and would like to have them framed- let me know. It's a contemporary look that doesn't require matting or glass. I could have them framed and shipped for just a little extra. $40.00 s/h included elizabethchapman@artlover.com

Beautiful

Beautiful

Contemporary Modern
Watercolor on 8" x 8" 300 lb. paper

I didn't realize until just now that I posted another one on my dailypaintersabstract blog that is titled "Bright and Beautiful. (here it is) Emma, I hope you see this one!

This is one of those where I see so much beauty and perfection of design in nature. I really didn't have to try to plan out a good composition, it was all there. I simply zoomed in and cropped this area of the flower, which emphasizes so eloquently the beautiful God given design of this flower. This one is being matted and framed (white matt/black frame) and will be available for purchase at Hawthorn's Galllery. Contact Kylee 417-866-6688 if interested.

I am presently working on a series of small abstract paintings 7" x 7" and 8" x 8" some have already been posted and I will post more of them as they develop. These are acrylic on 300lb watercolor paper (very heavy paper)
and can be framed with out matting or glass. A ready made frame could be used or I they could be custom framed at a very reasonable price. I just took one in last week to my framer and found that they look really sharp this way. I'm excited about these because they can be sold at a more affordable price range to many of those who have expressed an interest in my work and they also would look really good as a grouping. Pairs, groups of three, fours, fives..... etc. as long as the framing and size is kept consistent.

and lastly.... I would kind of like to take a little survey. Just wondering if it's bothersome to any of you that I flip back and forth between posting realistics and abstracts. I usually post as I complete the paintings. I'm versatile in that sometimes I am working abstractly and sometimes realistically. I'm growing to accept this about myself but it might be confusing to others. So I have thought about maybe starting another blog linked to this one for just the realistics and keeping them separarted from the abstracts. any idea's out there? change or leave it? tell me what you think either by comment or e-mail. elizabethchapman@artlover.com
Have a great weekend!

Provision

Provision
Acrylic Palette Knife Painting
8" x 8" 300lb. paper

The squash and zuchinni in our garden is absolutely going crazy. We planted about a 20ft. row of it at the same time and it is now already at the same time. As I was I picking it the other day along with some cherries I was inspired by those colors and thinking how God so graciously provides for us each day. This painting was an outpouring of those thoughts and the title came from the realization that each day's provision comes from a loving heavenly Father. No worries!

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34

Interwoven

Contemporary Modern Abstract
Acrylic Palette Knife Painting
8" x 8" 300lb. paper

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous- how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. Psalm 139:13-15

We are going to be grandparents!!!!! and so are busy making all kinds of changes and plans. Funny how babies have a way of changing things. Doren and Sarah showed us her ultrasound pictures and already love her soooo much!! and such a beautiful name.... Penelope Bloom

The Gift

The Gift
Acrylic on 8" x 8" 300lb. paper

Just thought I would do a painting with a person in it. As I was going through our box with old photos this one stood out. I liked the way the little boy is sitting in the center surrounded with all the presents. This is actually a nephew of mine at his first birthday party which was in the summer at a park. Painted in an impressionistic style with a palette knife.

abundance of color.....

Contemporary Realism

"Morning Star"

Transparent Watercolor on 8" x 10" 300lb. paper

....bold and strong. This is a transparent watercolor, which is a layering of colors in order to strengthen and build the color and values of the object(s) being painted. It is time consuming in that each previous layers needs to dry before applying the next. The object was to show the beauty in contrast of the intense colors of yellows and pinks in this oriental lily. It was contrasted against an abstracted darker foliage background further emphasizing the flower. There you go, a mini art lesson for you!! Enjoy.

Contemporary Modern Watercolor

"Bloom"

8" x 12" on 300lb. paper

Another watercolor working from one of the many, many many photos I took at the park. Again, I started out with the intention of being realistic and as you can see it went more towards the abstract side. Anyway, hope it's enjoyed!

changes......

Contemporary Abstract Watercolor

"Emerald"

8" x 10" watercolor on 300lb. Arches paper

........ well I've been back to painting with watercolors again. It's been awhile, since I've been working abstractly with acrylics on canvas. I have a tendency to revert back to realism when I paint with watercolors. This one was different, more of the merging between realism and abstract with a lot of life!! Perhaps a reason for a change is because I've been sooooo inspired lately by what seems like the perfect colors in flowers. We were out at Nathaniel Green Park the other day and I took tons of photos and hope to get more photos this summer. They are just so gorgeous and beautiful. Also, perhaps another reason is that watercolors just seem more like a summer time medium. Another reason?- we've just been really busy lately making all kinds of changes in our home...painting, really, really cleaning, organizing and moving all for a very special reason. More on that later, but maybe that has also sparked a change.

Anyway... if this original watercolor has captured you then home with you it must go! It measures 8" x 10" on 300lb. acid free Arches paper. Winsor & Newton paints have been used for high quality lightfastness. Painting is sold unframed and will be shipped in a protective sleeve. $20.00 plus s/h

View Side by Elizabeth Chapman

Modern Abstract

"View Side"

Acrylic Palette Knife Painting on 8"x 8" 300 lb. paper

I never been to the Mediterranean area but I have felt that I would love it there, mainly because of the colors and food. This piece reminds me of a view looking out of a window at a Mediterranean landscape. What do you see?

Summer Vegetables

This painting was from a challenge I took up from a blog called Different Strokes from Different Folks. The artist who began this is Karin Jurick, a very talented and known painter. She presents the challenge with a photograph and then artists do their interpretations of it. You are also asked to try a different medium each time. I chose to do my first one with oil pastels, not a medium that I usually use. It is so interesting to see all the different interpretations. This would make a great project for any art teachers out there! You can see the photo for this week along with all the interpretations here. and... still taking bids for Magnificence- Sunday's blog.

and so what do we do now......

"Untitled"
8" x 8" acrylic on 300lb. paper
Available

I have spent the majority of the last few days painting- Magnificence over the weekend- and then today four small abstracts. I really liked this one a lot. It reminds me of one I did called Night Life a very large painting currently at Hawthorn's. I'm thinking about continuing with the large abstracts and also beginning a series of semi-abstract florals in acrylics. I would also like to expand out and do some landscapes and figure paintings. I also enjoy the transparent watercolors, so maybe some more florals and abstracts with them. It seems like it would be just so much easier to stick with one medium and style- At the show I was asked, "so who is the artist that did those paintings over there?" oh well- I guess just go with the creative flow!!

Wow!! This painting just speaks with color! The inspiration came from a bouquet my daughter Elsie gave me for the opening of my show. Oh, I knew when I saw them that I would want to use them for a painting, but I had no idea the color would turn out as bright and bold as this. Magnificant!!

Feel assured I use nothing but high quality materials. This painting has layers of Golden acrylic paint, painted thickly with a palette knife. Painting will be sealed with a protective UV sealant, sides will be painted and wired on the back ready to hang. Painting is sold unframed but could be framed with a ready made frame.

Art Show

The Art Show was a success! Hawthorn's did such a marvelous job with the hanging of the art work. The weather for this First Friday Night Art Walk, and the opening of this show could not have been any nicer. The musicians did an awesome job with the music and their was a huge turn out of people. The show was well enjoyed!! I personally enjoyed mingling with everyone and listening to all the wonderful comments that were made. Thank you to everyone that was involved. There are more photographs that can be seen on my daughter Elsie's blog as she was the one who was taking the pictures. See more photos here.

The Show

It's time!! The June First Friday Night Art Walk (June 5th) will be the opening night for my first ever solo show! Many of the pieces that will be in that show I have displayed over the last few weeks on my blog. Live music by Don Chapman and Jeremy Larson. I would like to thank Hawthorns Gallery for the wonderful opportunity they have given me and the review they gave for this opening, which can be read here. If you live in the Springfield area and would like to come, heres a map and I'll see you there!

"The Show" is an acrylic painting on a 36" x 48" 1 1/2" canvas. There is something that is lost in the photo when you can't see the size. Imagine it if you will- covering a wall (your wall!!) and the colors are so bright and happy! The colors are close. The canvas is just covered with beautiful color combinations and movement! (click on photo for up close) I love the colors!! It is one of my most recent pieces and so will not be included in this show. Maybe next time?! It was titled "The Show" by the one who so often titles my work, my husband, Don. It reminded him of theater lights and how so appropriate with this upcoming event. If you feel you may have the wall for this piece or for further information contact me. Well....hope to break a leg!!

To those of you who were involved in Elsie's 24 hour blogathon and won some of my paintings,I recieved your thank yous and you are sooooo00000 welcome. I'm sure they found good homes and will be enjoyed. Your comments were all so sweet- keep working on taking over the world with cuteness!!!!!

Kite Flite

This is a rather small painting measuring 19" x 24" 3/4", painted with acrylics. A fun piece that reminded me of kites being flown in the spring time and an old time favorite movie "Mary Poppins".
