 ORANGE.... and how the copper metallics enriched  this mixed media painting.  Picture this one matted and framed in a                               frame.  I'll let you imagine it being further enhanced. One day it will become the perfect fit for someone's decorating needs.  

One of my favorite things in working as an independent artist is the opportunity that it gives me to connect with the buyers/collectors. I love hearing about what a piece has meant to someone, whether it was a personal purchase or as a gift. The way that it filled a space in a home or office....and LOVE seeing any photos!!

So, I guess the process is actually twofold for an artist.  The creating of a piece is such a personal journey in which only the artist will ever know all that was poured into a work.  Then there is the meaning, joy, response, etc., that another will receive from the art that completes the cycle.

I have always loved a good fairy tale....so perhaps that is why I've been so enchanted by watching the Royal  Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton.  We also have two very important weddings coming up!!....May 15th our daughter Elsie will be marrying Jeremy Larson.  Then a little breather and we will have our son Doren marrying Sarah Lockhart October 1st.  Exciting!!

I just noticed as I was going through some of my latest small abstracts that I had never posted "Zona" on my blog.  If your interested in this painting it is available from my web gallery.  Lately, I've been busy  painting for the show at "Obelisk Home" in which I will be a featured artist in for February.  It is always an adjustment to go from painting on a smaller canvas to the larger ones.  I recently painted the largest size canvas that I have ever worked on. (60" x 60")  I will share these new paintings as soon as I get them all photographed.  The weather is snowy and cold here, so it may be a few days before I get outside to do this.  SO...for now I'll share the latest small abstracts.  Enjoy!

  Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.  But they delight in the Law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. Mostly, when I paint purely abstractly one thing leads to the next.  The story to this one is that as it was laying drying I accidently dropped another painting (paint side down) on to this one.  It then had colors from the other painting in the hanging tree limbs.  My first thought- oh no, it's ruined.  My second thought- now how can I make this work.  So, I decided to go with adding more of the specks of color. Flowers or fruit?  A magical moment was created!!

I am so excited!! I got invited to join the Daily Painters Abstract Gallery and yaaaa! I accepted. It is such an honor and yet so humbling to me to be recognized by these painters. If you look on my sidebar you will see the widget that will take you to this site. You have to click on the Daily Painters Abstract in order to see all the other artist's paintings. Also, I got some more lessons on technology. Not only did I learn how to add the widget, but also a paypal button. Everyday I become a little bit more technology minded!

This will be such a wonderful experience. As most of you know who have been so faithfully following my blog (thank you), I've wavered back and forth between the realistic and abstract trying to find my niche. I have resisted the abstract, yet it seems to be my stronger side. I believe joining the daily abstract painters will keep me focused on painting abstractly. It also presents another venue to market my work. This is a most difficult part for me, the business side. Also, I would like to say that this is answered prayer for direction. God is so very good.

Today, is my birthday!! Not being technology minded should give you an idea of my age! Anyway, I am going to take the day off- and be back to studio life tomorrow to paint, paint, paint.....

The painting I posted today- was painted yesterday! It was sooooo much fun to paint. I painted along side a student of mine who is 8 y/o. She is very expressionistic and I'm not sure if I'm the teacher or she is! Check it out on my widget.

Good Morning!  This one will certainly wake you up with lots and lots of bright colors!  This morning I'm going to be packing up the car with the rest of the work for the June show at Hawthorns Gallery.  yay  If you live in the Springfield area, I would love to see you!  The opening night will be with the First Friday Art Walk, Friday June 5th- 6-9p.m.  Otherwise the work will be on display throughout the month of June.  Oh, and as a side note- my husband Don and Jeremy Larson will be providing the music for the opening. Thank you guys!  This is my first solo show so  I'm very excited and a bit nervous about my work being up for others to see.  I'm positive in my thinking, but can't help but have those doubts creeping in. 

I hope that you enjoy this piece- It's one of my favorites so far- I love the color!  It was inspired from a comment by Kendra- in which she had suggested using colors and combinations of red, yellow and green.  I took it as a challenge and began with only these three colors on a black background.  This is  a very large work- 3ft x 4ft.  It began with a curvilinear line and then I began working the shapes and balancing color around it. As it progressed I began seeing the large circle shape as a watchful eye over a city.  Also, not only was there a nine but I can also see a ninety one.  (shapes running through the center of the nine)  One of my favorite things about the pure abstracts is that others see there own stories, so I hope that mine hasn't ruined yours.

Thanks for the comments! as you can see I am reading and taking them to heart.  They really do encourage and inspire me.  I'm taking a few days and then plan on beginning work on a new series of work.  I love creating and painting!!

Today we will be seeing Emma off, back to L.A- sooooooo sad.  I always loooooove it when she's coming in, (just knowing that she's around) but then the leaving again is hard.  I know that she misses us terribly, but also that she is very happy there pursuing her dream.  And so, knowing that she is happy is a comfort to me.

 When I came across these flowers I knew it was going to have to be a painting.  I absolutely loved the abundance of bright colors. The violets against the turquoise- total eye candy for me!  Once again,  working on a black canvas which seems to bring out the brilliance of the colors.

I finished this one up last week and am presently working on a large purely abstract - red, green, yellow and combo shades of- that has been presenting its challenges to me.  Will post as soon as it's done.  Wrapping it up and getting ready to take all these works to Hawthorn Galleries, Inc. Show time is coming up!

As I sat back and reflected this morning, I thought of this painting I worked on this last week and the abundance of color it has.  It reminded and made me think of how much we have here in America and how thankful I am. So, I sat down and wrote a list and here it is;  family, friends, the seasons- it's spring!, the rain- garden is growing, shelter and food, the gifts we've been given, sharing with others, joy, beauty that surrounds us, stuff we really don't need but yet have been given for our enjoyment, cheesecake, pugs and last but by no means least a heavenly Father who watches over us.  Perhaps you could do your own reflection and write a list today.

..... until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven.  Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops.  Isaiah 32:15
