Fresh off the easel!  ….and the last of these size canvases. I'm needing to order more canvases, but having a dilemma with which sizes to order.  I love working on so many different sizes.  This size is handy in that it can easily be taken off the easel and turned on a table.  With each turn there is a fresh perspective which helps in creating balance.  On the other hand, the large canvases have a lot more space to play in.  The smallest are actually the hardest and take the longest for me.  So, I'll scratch those off the list for now.  

Anyway, I can wait a bit longer on that decision. However I can not on the bubble wrap.  I sold a painting this week! yay!…and used the last of it for packaging.  This has got to be done soon…like today. We buy a super large roll here locally, which requires a trip with the truck.  The roll is so large that we can not get in through any of our doorways!  It has to be rolled out in the driveway where it is cut in half and roll up into two rolls for storage.  Something, that we do about once a year and we usually get it done before running out.  We still have some cardboard left, so that can wait for another few boxes to be made.  So, as you can see there is more going on behind the scenes than just painting.  Working on catching up!

oops…haven't posted in a bit.  Could it be Spring is on the way?!  With these early warm days I've been enjoying and working outside as much as possible.  Inside the house, there is nothing like more light to jump start the spring cleaning. Also, a good form of procrastinating studio time. Hey, at least the house is getting clean!  Today, it is raining and the 42 degree start is slowly dropping to the present 32 with talk of snow.  Fixing chicken and dumplings for lunch, tomato and grilled cheese sandwiches for supper, there's a pecan pie made and maybe hot chocolate some time today. Comfort foods to take the chill away.  Tomorrow it will be 17 degrees, then Tuesday will be back to 60 degrees. yep, it's the Ozarks!

I've heard it said that, "the first brushstroke can be the hardest" and so it was with this one.  It was begun with the background colors and left for many days as I went on with other stuff to do. Along the  way, the back of my mind was saying, "you've got work to do in the studio, need to get back" and so reluctantly I stepped back in one morning.  Sometimes the best time to paint, can be when you just don't feel like it, don't care or are bored as this can help make that shift to the right creative brain side much quicker.  I found myself not worrying about creating a wonderful work, one that is liked by others, will sell, etc., etc.,  but just….enjoying it!

I have always loved a good fairy tale....so perhaps that is why I've been so enchanted by watching the Royal  Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton.  We also have two very important weddings coming up!!....May 15th our daughter Elsie will be marrying Jeremy Larson.  Then a little breather and we will have our son Doren marrying Sarah Lockhart October 1st.  Exciting!!

Second Act

I painted this one to replace another painting, THE SHOW, that someone was absolutely in love, in love with but then couldn't purchase it because it had sold.... or so we thought..... that's the long story short. BUT, because of this the idea for a theatrical series gave birth. This is the SECOND ACT, which will be followed by FINALE and lastly CURTAIN CALL.

I found it very difficult and procrastinated for days in starting this one. I was hung up on re-creating one like the first one, "The Show". Once I began and put that first mark down, it began to unfold and I simply allowed myself to go with the creative flow. This one has it's own uniqueness that I absolutely love. The reds in the photo of Second Act tend to all blend in the photo but under the magnifier it's possible to see all the golds, yellow, coppers and oranges that make this area so rich. The photographs are close but again just really do not give the paintings justice. The colors in both of these are beautiful!!

No two will ever be the same. I can't believe now that I thought I would be able to recreate the first one. My husband pointed out that it is just like having kids. That is so true. I even did that with them. After Elsie the oldest, who was born with the darkest hair and eyes I assumed that the second one would be just the same. Really I did. (you know dark hair and eyes are dominant) Well, then Emma came along and she looked a lot like her sister but had lighter hair and blue eyes. Then Doren, the youngest had blonde hair.

So now, because of this long story short there is a theatrical series, two paintings and a person who will be needing to make a decision.... or maybe not and take them both home!!!

These are presently hanging in the window of Hawthorns Galleries in downtown Springfield, Mo. It was one of those that did take me a bit to resolve. I worked on others while waiting and coming back for the next idea. It is definitely a favorite!! I began with the background and layers of acrylic paint that were allowed to drip and overlap each other, while at the same time pulling color out. The thinly layered cool colored background was contrasted with thick multi-layers of colored circles (pearls?) laying on the bottom of the sea shoal. The set of three panels are listed for $270.00.
