Secret Garden

This small 8" x 10" acrylic painting on a gallery wrap canvas, reminds me of what may actually be my favorite time of year outside where we live. Up and down the street there is wild honeysuckle in full bloom. The fragrance is everywhere outside and it permeates our house. Love it! Where does Secret Garden take you?! Contact myself or Kylee at Hawthorn's for more info.

Abundance

From yesterday's subtle color variations to today's bold and strong colors! Another favorite, Abundance was on Jess Gonacha's blog about abundance last week. You can check it out here.
Her work is so very inspiring!

Abundance is an acrylic painting that measures 24"x30" 1 1/2" on a gallery wrap canvas. Presently at Hawthorn's, so you can contact Kylee (phone on side bar) for purchasing information or of course myself the artist.

Autumn Dusk

Autumn Dusk has always been one of my favorites. It has taken it's turn hanging in our living room. This one is a must to zoom in on and put a magnifying glass on. (click on photo) There are many, many layers and subtle variations in color and texture. It was signed with my full name, making it recognizable as one of my first pieces. Somewhere along the line I decided my full name was too long, and have gone to using MEC and signing my name on the back.

Upcoming Art Show! June 5th - July 1st at Hawthorn's Gallery

As I began this journey in pursuing work as a professional artist nearly one year ago, I never ever dreamed I would be showing my work in a gallery so soon. Their are nearly fifty pieces that will be shown at Hawthorn's Gallery beginning with the First Friday Night Art Walk on June 5th and running through the month of June.

The works range from realistic, to semi-abstract to purely abstractly- from working in mixed media, to transparent watercolors to acrylics- from traditional to contemporary- from very small to very large pieces- subject matter also ranges from florals to abstract and prices range from the smallest pieces (4"x4") 20-25$ to the largest pieces (3ftx4ft) $500. A variety of many sorts.

If you live around the Springfield area and can attend I promise you will enjoy the show. Those of you who can't attend because of distance I thought I would post the majority of these pieces online for your enjoyment each day.
Those of you have been following since last fall, some of these you will have already seen. To all of you, I just want you to know how much I have appreciated the encouragement you have sent me through your comments. It has meant soooooooooooooo much to me! Thank you!

This piece was one of the first pieces to be in a juried art show. It is a mixed media piece, meaning their are layers of rice paper, acrylic and watercolor paint. It is one of the smaller pieces (8"x10") that has been matted and framed in an antiquish frame. The title of the piece is Mt. Zion.
For any further information on this piece, you can contac me or Hawthorn's Gallery.

I will try not to be so wordy each day as I post these paintings from the show! You can also view these along with my new daily paintings on the daily painters abstract gallery blog each day. There are some spectacular works from other artist's on there. I would love to hear of your favorites. Enjoy the show!!

Continuum

Continuum
Contemporary Abstract Painting
30"x40"

I've had a difficult time photographing and editing this painting.  This is as close as I could get it, but still don't feel like it does it justice.  I love the simplicity and yet the elegance that this painting has.  We have it hanging in our living room behind a table that has a large green jar with deep blue- violet tall stem gladious flowers.   It looks really awesome!  For any further information I can be contacted at elizabethchapman @artlover.com  Enjoy!

yay a productive weekend....

Star Maker

Palette Knife Acrylic Painting
24" x 36"

I got a lot of painting done this weekend.  I went right to the large canvases that I had gotten away from for awhile.  They just seem so intimidating.  Once I get started the creative flow seems to take over along with different thought processes.  So much of the time I am feeling as if I am making a mess, but when I stand back or come back after a time I see a beautiful mess!

Star Maker is a palette knife acrylic painting on a gallery wrap canvas that measures 24" x 36" by 1 /2" sides.  The sides have been painted and wired on the back ready to hang.  Finished with a UV protective sealant and highest quality paints used.  E-mail me: elizabethchapman@artlover.com for purchasing information.

all things work for good.....

Magical Moment

Contemporary Expressionistic Abstract Art

Acrylic paint on 8" x 8" canvas panel
Contac me for purchase information.

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.  But they delight in the Law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.  Their leaves never wither, and the prosper in all they do.  Psalm 1:1-3

Mostly, when I paint purely abstractly one thing leads to the next.  The story to this one is that as it was laying drying I accidently dropped another painting (paint side down) on to this one.  It then had colors from the other painting in the hanging tree limbs.  My first thought- oh no, it's ruined.  My second thought- now how can I make this work.  So, I decided to go with adding more of the specks of color. Flowers or fruit?  A magical moment was created!!

way inspired....

Friday A.M.
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
8" x 8" on canvas panel

Sooo, I was inspired with some new colors that I bought this week.  I painted a lot of small paintings this morning.  This one that I posted was the first one-   and so did I have to use every color in the same painting?!  apparently I did with this one!  I've been away from doing the pure abstracts for a few weeks and painting these smaller ones helps me to get back to.....

the larger canvas's.  We picked up two really large ones this week.  A 3ft x 4 ft and a 30" x 40".  Perhaps tomorrow- I've been tossing ideas around, but then what most usually happens is those  first marks will lead to the next, and then the next, and the next.... it's just kinda scary starting.  I always feel intimidated in the beginning.  It's that just getting started.

I'm going to be providing the opportunity to purchase many of these off my blog.  Shipping is for North America.  Contac me at elizabethchapman@artlover.com for international prices. You can click the paypal button for price of painting plus s&h.  Friday a.m is on a canvas panel that could be easily popped into a ready made frame.  No matting necessary.  Enjoy!

Check out my Widget!

Mysterious

Contemporary Acrylic Abstract Painting
8" x 10" on 3/4" wraparound canvas

I am so excited!! I got invited to join the Daily Painters Abstract Gallery and yaaaa! I accepted. It is such an honor and yet so humbling to me to be recognized by these painters. If you look on my sidebar you will see the widget that will take you to this site. You have to click on the Daily Painters Abstract in order to see all the other artist's paintings. Also, I got some more lessons on technology. Not only did I learn how to add the widget, but also a paypal button. Everyday I become a little bit more technology minded!

This will be such a wonderful experience. As most of you know who have been so faithfully following my blog (thank you), I've wavered back and forth between the realistic and abstract trying to find my niche. I have resisted the abstract, yet it seems to be my stronger side. I believe joining the daily abstract painters will keep me focused on painting abstractly. It also presents another venue to market my work. This is a most difficult part for me, the business side. Also, I would like to say that this is answered prayer for direction. God is so very good.

Today, is my birthday!! Not being technology minded should give you an idea of my age! Anyway, I am going to take the day off- and be back to studio life tomorrow to paint, paint, paint.....

The painting I posted today- was painted yesterday! It was sooooo much fun to paint. I painted along side a student of mine who is 8 y/o. She is very expressionistic and I'm not sure if I'm the teacher or she is! Check it out on my widget.

Have a great day!
Elizabeth

April showers bring.....

May Flowers
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Acrylic on 18" x 24" canvas
$85.00 plus shipping

It's raining again.  I love these spring showers that are just enough to water the flowers and the garden.  This was another one of those paintings from last weeks power outage. (hopefully no more of those outages)  The peonies always bloom in time for Mother's Day.  Knowing that we had a big rain coming, I went out, cut a bouquet and then they somehow became a painting!

I'm Back...

Together

Contemporary Palette Knife Acrylic Painting
8" x 8" on a canvas panel
$40.00 plus shipping

Well, our power has been out for several days. I'm sitting here at Panera blogging. So, what do you do when the lights are out? Paint!!! - in the dark, paint in the daytime- paint all of the time. This little painting was the first in my "lights out" series. Seriously, I had started this one as a severe storm was approaching, the lights flickered and out it went. SO, out came the candles and the painting continued. I really like a lot of things about this small painting. The two peonies (mother/daughter) and the subtle change in value from the glass vase and background.

Happy, happy Mother's Day!!!!

"Nine"

Contemporary Acrylic Abstract

36" x 48"

Good Morning!  This one will certainly wake you up with lots and lots of bright colors!  This morning I'm going to be packing up the car with the rest of the work for the June show at Hawthorns Gallery.  yay  If you live in the Springfield area, I would love to see you!  The opening night will be with the First Friday Art Walk, Friday June 5th- 6-9p.m.  Otherwise the work will be on display throughout the month of June.  Oh, and as a side note- my husband Don and Jeremy Larson will be providing the music for the opening. Thank you guys!  This is my first solo show so  I'm very excited and a bit nervous about my work being up for others to see.  I'm positive in my thinking, but can't help but have those doubts creeping in.

I hope that you enjoy this piece- It's one of my favorites so far- I love the color!  It was inspired from a comment by Kendra- in which she had suggested using colors and combinations of red, yellow and green.  I took it as a challenge and began with only these three colors on a black background.  This is  a very large work- 3ft x 4ft.  It began with a curvilinear line and then I began working the shapes and balancing color around it. As it progressed I began seeing the large circle shape as a watchful eye over a city.  Also, not only was there a nine but I can also see a ninety one.  (shapes running through the center of the nine)  One of my favorite things about the pure abstracts is that others see there own stories, so I hope that mine hasn't ruined yours.

Thanks for the comments! as you can see I am reading and taking them to heart.  They really do encourage and inspire me.  I'm taking a few days and then plan on beginning work on a new series of work.  I love creating and painting!!

Today we will be seeing Emma off, back to L.A- sooooooo sad.  I always loooooove it when she's coming in, (just knowing that she's around) but then the leaving again is hard.  I know that she misses us terribly, but also that she is very happy there pursuing her dream.  And so, knowing that she is happy is a comfort to me.

Well, I'm off to get ready. Enjoy today's colors!

a bit of eye candy....

Title?
Acrylic on 8"x10" canvas panel

Just a bit of color to brighten up your day! I've been painting in this sort of a style lately and it seems to feel so natural and me. Perhaps it's the mixture of the realistic and abstract coming together. I love the bright colors. Also, I've been feeling much more confident and bolder in how I use color. Maybe too much!? eh

This is the last one that I have planned to take to the show. It's going to get framed today along with Embrace, both of which were painted from local irises. I feel as if the style I'm feeling comfortable with and enjoying is beginning to emerge. Too bad it's here at the end of having done all this work for this show. But, hey I'm now looking at it as a new beginning for the next one.

I'm going to take some time and continue this style on some small panels, using flowers, fruit and objects from home. At least that is the plan for now. Then I will be using them to set up a new Etsy shop, or sell off my blog or however other way I can market them. Also, I would like to continue to work on my large pure abstract paintings. The last one I finished is still drying. I will post it soon (next). I promise. It's the red, green and yellow and combos of- I love it!! and will share soon. The inspiration for it came from a comment - Thank you Kendra. Enjoy today's colors!!

Abundance

"Abundance"
Contemporary Acrylic Painting on 20"x24" canvas

SOLD

When I came across these flowers I knew it was going to have to be a painting.  I absolutely loved the abundance of bright colors. The violets against the turquoise- total eye candy for me!  Once again,  working on a black canvas which seems to bring out the brilliance of the colors.
I finished this one up last week and am presently working on a large purely abstract - red, green, yellow and combo shades of- that has been presenting its challenges to me.  Will post as soon as it's done.  Wrapping it up and getting ready to take all these works to Hawthorn Galleries, Inc. Show time is coming up!

As I sat back and reflected this morning, I thought of this painting I worked on this last week and the abundance of color it has.  It reminded and made me think of how much we have here in America and how thankful I am. So, I sat down and wrote a list and here it is;  family, friends, the seasons- it's spring!, the rain- garden is growing, shelter and food, the gifts we've been given, sharing with others, joy, beauty that surrounds us, stuff we really don't need but yet have been given for our enjoyment, cheesecake, pugs and last but by no means least a heavenly Father who watches over us.  Perhaps you could do your own reflection and write a list today.

..... until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven.  Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops.  Isaiah 32:15

What fun.....

Red Velvet Art "Gourd Painting"

Red Velvet Art "Abstract Journals"

Yesterday, Donnie and I taught our classes at the Red Velvet Art Workshop weekend. He taught gourd painting and I taught a class on abstract journals. and we had sooooooo much fun, fun, fun!! I really mean that- we enjoyed doing this so much. The crafters are so very sweet and did I mention fun to be around. I didn't realize till I got home that I wasn't in any of the pictures- but yes I was there. The workshop continues through the weekend and we will be back to tonight for Mr. Larson's concert. It's also First Friday Art Walk downtown and we'll be eating pizza on Commercial Street. More pics later...... also I just finished a painting this morning that I really, really like. As soon as the sun comes out I'll photograph and share it.
