Santa Fe, New Mexico inspired expressionistic abstract painting! I've been excited about a new technique that I have been developing after having taken an workshop with Annie O'Brian Gonzalez. For some time I had been drawn to her use of patterns and color, so on a whim decided to take her workshop. Her paintings are mostly inspired from still life florals.  My objective was not to come back home and paint like she does, but to incorporate what I was to learn into my own style.  More new paintings to be posted soon!

This painting was done as a demonstration piece that I did for a workshop. It was created using a technique that I developed with my very first abstract paintings. Instead of using watercolors as I had once done, I used high flow acrylic paints. These did a really good job in working much like a watercolor with transparent layers of color. A stencil that I made out of paper was used to print the darkest blues. My way of putting those first marks down. Lastly, I found a place to fit it into the piece becoming a focal point, yet hidden. Can you find it?

I recently took a workshop with Annie O'Brian Gonzalez who is a master at using bold expressive color.  I have been especially drawn to her use of patterns and incorporating more of them into my paintings. In scrolling down you can view the paintings that were done at her workshop using still life set ups as the initial inspiration. I am done with the florals for a bit and have been incorporating new techniques into my abstracts. This is one of them with more to be posted soon.
