I've been on a floral roll lately, so thought I would go ahead and post the last completed one. These paintings tend to happen as signs of warmer weather, green grass, spring breezes begin to occur.  Although, this year the thoughts and paintings happened long before those first signs.  I wonder if that's what getting older is all about?!  hmm.

All depends on where you live, but here in Southwest Missouri the first of February begins to show the earliest signs of Spring. No matter where you live, that is exciting! These two paintings are a result of anticipating the new array of color portrayed in florals. FAV was just so much fun working with a palette knife and applying lots of thick paint creating fabulous surface texture.

Fresh off the easel. Slipping another floral abstract into the inventory.  I was downstairs in my studio working on a figurative abstract commissioned piece when I decided to take a break. Coming up the stairs, I found this beautiful bouquet of purple and yellow irises sitting there on the table. Turned out, my mother-in-law had came by and dropped these flowers off.  She has what I believe to be one of the most beautiful floral gardens in our area. Right away, I knew I would be doing something artistic with these gems. I took pictures to work with later. 

As the day went along, I just kept thinking about these.  I had a canvas on the easel that I had started with a few days earlier, but had not progressed much.  I began thinking about how this arrangement would fit into that canvas. Well, that got it going.  I went and got the canvas brought it upstairs and began with a charcoal gesturally drawing. Of course, now I'm thinking about color. So, back down to the studio to paint. I took the bouquet with me.  As one thing led to the next, a painting had been completed on a day with no plans for this kind.

Hope to create a few more floral abstracts from Norma's garden this summer!

 Sorry about the confusion and so to answer and clarify Sheila's question from the previous post-  the baby that we are expecting as our first grandchild is Sarah and Doren's.  Doren is  the youngest of our three children, (the boy, no blog )  Elsie is our oldest daughter, whom many of you know as, A Beautiful Mess  and our middle child is Emma, From Scratch, an aspiring actress who lives in L.A.  And so.... Doren and Sarah have currently made the basement of our house their home as they are currently working and in college.  It is a blessing to us to be able to share our home and help them during this most precious time of beginnings.  Every day is another day of waiting.... your.thoughts, prayers, etc..  are very much appreciated.
