I'm looking at this one and trying to remember how it began. I can tell you that it changed a lot from it's original starts. Kinda of reminds me of a painting from a few years ago, Simple Things. Not so much the color but the composition and it has already shown interest. Simple Things ended with a sad story. The only painting of mine that ever got damaged in shipping and I've been selling online since 2009. It was insured and FedEx was wonderful with how they handled the claim.  Always take pictures of the damage should this ever happen to you. Although I was happy to be able collect on this claim, it was such a major disappointment to me that the buyer was not going to be able to hang this painting in her home. It was one of two paintings she purchased from me that she had spent years searching for in order to pair up.  In the end, it all worked out.  Paintings are securely packaged, faced, wrapped with bubble wrap and strong cardboard for making the boxes and of course, insured. I always take a deep breath when dropping one off to be shipped knowing that the purchase is not complete until there is a safe delivery.

thanks for viewing! elizabeth

It has been a goal of mine as I have worked over the last few months to work with a "less is more" composition and using more neutrals. This piece is a very good example of that, but still shows my love for color. So, try as I might I can't seem to get to far away from it!

Day TWENTY TWO

Montane
Acrylic on 22" x 36" heavy watercolor paper
Ready to frame
Available: HERE

Day TWENTY TWO…of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.  Heavily textured surface as the paint has been built up on this one. A plus in that it gives the 156lb watercolor paper extra strength.  However, it would need to be framed and it is a rather large piece.  But there are options. Because it is an acrylic it would not necessarily need to be framed under glass. It could be adhered to a back support and popped into a floater frame.  Another idea, might be to have it placed on top of a matt and framed. Then of course it could always be matted and framed. The size of this piece could vary once framed depending on the size of matt and frame chosen.

So, what does it remind you of? I am having fun viewing it and imagining it as a mountain scene. The circles are like magnifying glasses for close ups.  Probably located somewhere in the southwest indicated by the colors. That's my take...

30 paintings in 30 days….Day Fifteen

Adowa
Acrylic on 24"H x 36"W x 3/4" wrap canvas
Available

Day FIFTEEN….. This is actually a painting that I have revised giving it a little bit different of a twist. I love the surface texture that working on a previously painted canvas will give you.  If you would like to see the older painting, I will link it here.  I was willing for it to become a totally new painting, but I wanted it to remain a vertical and keep the same title. It was already wired on the back for a vertical and the title had been written. Seems to have retained the same feel to it and somewhat similar overall color.  Adowa is an African dance…can you feel the movement?

embrace creativity....

Besides the RED, I just love the variety of patterns and how they play against each other in this painting.  This is another one of those that changed a lot as it progressed. LOL...don't they all!  It was a matter of getting to that point where the critical self steps aside and the creative auto pilot takes over. Oh, I so hate to admit this.  But, there is a point when I might just feel as if I have got the ugliest painting ever created and so it really doesn't matter.  Just go ahead and do whatever.  I have learned to embrace this time as so many beautiful paintings have resulted from that mode.  So, go ahead....don't be afraid...embrace creativity and play!!

splashes...

Presently on a roll with these floral abstracts.  This gorgeous painting was inspired by the annual pick of Peonies from our backyard.  Ya, your probably wondering "where are the peonies"? Well, needless to say, I sort of got off track again....ok..way off track.  Anyway, we'll keep that a secret!

I began much the same way as I did with "Beaut."  The paper was first of all soaked with clear water and then taking Azo Gold and Magenta watercolor paint directly from the tube to a wide brush, I laid the brushstrokes down.  Colors where allowed to mingle as the paper was tilted.   While still wet, I quickly did a gesturally drawing of the Peonies with a brown watercolor pencil. Many of those lines where covered up as the painting progressed.  From here, there was a layering process that pretty much took the whole day as I allowed a layer to dry before working again.  The irridescent acrylic gold is a metallic paint that ordinarily doesn't photograph very well, but think it did quite well with this one.

Just having fun exploring and experimenting with splashes of watercolors/acrylic color!

Red!!!  I so enjoy working with this beautiful color.  I did not realize, until I posted on my website last night, how close "Chateau" looks to another larger painting I did several months ago, "Axiom".  A miniature version!  If you would like to compare them, they are presently side by side on my gallery page - click here to see.
