daily works...

Lustrous
Acrylic on 8" x 8" x 3/4" wrap canvas
Available

I like being able to offer a variety of different sizes to choose from for those interested in collecting a work for their home or office.  For me, it can be be almost more difficult working on a mini canvas than the wide open space of a large canvas.  The change from large to small or vice a versa has always been good, though.  Lately, I have found myself working on more than one painting at a time.  I have found this to give me a break and a fresh perspective from a particular work and it seems to help loosen me up into the creative mode.  However way, always hoping to create works that are beautiful and will be enjoyed by others.  Available works can be seen in my Web Gallery: HERE.

....we've also been growing food to be enjoyed!  yum yum We have been up EARLY each morning  putting about an hour of work into this garden.  Now, the harvest has begun!  There are cucumbers, green beans, peppers, LOTS, LOTS of squash and just yesterday the first red tomato!  It's been, I believe the best garden we've ever had as usually what begins enthusiastically ends by mid-summer when we are overwhelmed  and it's hot. The secret has been keeping after it, doing a little each day.

Much like painting!

Thought you might enjoy a few garden pics:

Inspiration....  what inspires you?

I made a list and thought I might share what keeps me coming back to the studio, especially when you hit those dry times.  Hope you find my list of inspirations an encouragement to you.

*sometimes it helps to just get away and do something different...live life!
this might mean family time, trying out new recipes, shopping, gardening, etc.,

*cleaning and organizing my studio/house always seems to have a way to de-clutter my mind and helps me to refocus on new ideas.

*ordering supplies....love doing this... with each sale I re-invest in canvases or paints

*viewing artist's painting on you tube or just surfing the web

*a sale! or feedback...this one nearly always sends me back in the studio...gotta paint more!

*switch out to a different subject matter or medium, recently I have begun a visual journal

*walking and taking in all the beauty that we have been so blessed with, by God the creator of all.  Thankfulness.

*a trip to the mall soaking up all the colors in the clothing stores

*viewing a traveling show

*hearing "I love you"

*listening to music

*children's art

*probably the biggest one for me is believing...yes, go ahead and dream big!

Discipline.... is what I am currently working on.  Not that I don't have any, it just seems like it's become more and more random. Working for yourself is wonderful in that it gives you the opportunity to be flexible.  If you don't get work done in the morning, well there is always the evening and if there are other things that need to be done..then isn't that what weekends are for.  Sounds good..huh...except that there are only so many hours to a day and days to a week...and if you get to spending more time on the other stuff then the artist's work isn't going to get done.  I am not real good at setting goals either...it'll all work out is my motto!  My daughters,  Elsie and Emma are forever setting goals and living by them and it seems to work well as they run a business and a successful blog that requires most all their time. You can read more about them on A Beautiful Mess.  Lately, I have had to make some decisions to cut a few things out of my schedule and although they were very difficult for me to make, I believe it's a step in spending more time in the studio painting.  And yes girls, if your reading this...I am setting goals!
