Another painting that sold "fresh off the easel" and before having been listed to a person who contacted me through my Etsy store interested in a certain style and color scheme.  It just so happened that I had this one to show and it just so happened that it fit what she was looking for and loved it!

large abstract painting "Auspicious" is a perfect of example of "not falling in love too soon".   I struggled with this painting for several weeks knowing that in time I would win if I stayed the course.  It is a large canvas that was covered with so many beautiful colors, but I just could not pull it together. The problem was that I was not willing to let go of any of those areas.  Once I came to that point where I was willing to say "oh well", get a bit mad at it  and take that risk...then the magic occurred!

....and I fell in love with it once again!

Painting can be a struggle and then again it can be such a joy. The struggle often comes in finding the flow of a particular painting. Getting in the groove, so to speak. I was going along pretty safely here, but it just didn't feel right. Needed something. For me this time as often, it was a matter of taking a risk. That is where the circular motion came in and then there was that moment of just knowing, this was it. The joy of creating a painting that has it's own unique voice.

Anticipating fall.  Colors of the season to come have begun to feel there way in.  Below is a wood pile of freshly chopped wood.  So what is that all about? Well, it is a part of the fall preparations for a cold and snowy winter.  Just thought it made for a good picture!!

This painting is another one from this summer in which I have been working on and refining a new painting technique. Will I continue with this and totally disregard previous ways . Certainly not, but more than likely it will be incorporated into my own.  It's good to experiment, try new things and make new discoveries.  All a part of the process.  Looking back upon my painting career, I can see that the element in which I most consistent with is in the way I begin, follow through and finish a painting.  There will be the initial spark or idea in which I am inspired. It can be a certain color scheme, something that caught my eye, a concept, a photograph, etc.,....the list is endless. This is what drives me to the canvas laying down those first marks in which the dialogue begins.  It can be the hardest step. From this point one idea will lead to the next, which will in turn lead to the next, then the next and next until there is a  feeling of completion. Sometimes I have to let go of previous ideas in order to push the painting forward.  That can be difficult as well.  The important thing is to allow yourself the freedom to paint outside the box.  It's all a play with color, values, shapes, lines and texture. What and how I choose to paint with may always vary!

I have been working on the large canvases for about a month now, which seems to be the way that I operate.  When visiting my website you will find large, small. mini, mini mini, floral, figurative and heart abstracts.  I'll get on a track with a category and be on it for a while before making a switch to another size. Anyway, it was time to work on the large canvases...this one was painted on a winter day with the feel and colors that a snow day reflect.  How about a cup of hot chocolate?!

The Blues.... and listening to Chopin while painting resulted in this painting.  Just love it when the music almost seems to be directing the painting.  The chosen color palette to work with on this particular day was blue and white.   When the spirit moves....paint!

Reds! .... and LARGE!  I began this abstract by first determining my lights and darks...contrast.  It was a slow process of pondering, then adding one thought after another until I got to that moment.  I knew it was  time to take the risk... who's going to win this battle?!  So, on went the gloves and out came the rags and I tore into it by dropping the red on the left side, reworking some of the greens,  the whites on the bottom where pulled with my hands, brushes were used for detailing and there you have it...ta-da!  "Prelude"
