Current workplace is on a table. I have different work spaces for various types of work that I do. A table for paper paintings, an easel for canvases and a wall for unstretched canvases. What I have never thought about is that maybe it's a mood that decides which space to use. This one is still, quiet, with dimmer lights whereas with an easel there's music, dancing and brighter lights. Ever thought about your various work spaces?

I recently had the honored to be interviewed with "Where Art Lives Magazine"! I thought this was a really good question as it is oftened asked. 

Interview question: 

How do you know when a painting is finished? Answer:  How do you know when you are in love? You just know. It can't be measured in time. Sometimes it can happen just as you've begun a painting. Most of the time there is a beginning stage and then the struggle. This is the difficult time as you know it just isn't happening and yet you can't let go until it does. Lastly, comes THAT moment. At a loss for words as I just got through painting.  Not this one, but another canvas.  It's kinda like answering the phone while painting and I'm fumbling through trying to find words, quite embarrassing!  I was raised bilingual and would have to go through this transition time of finding either words in English or Spanish to speak, depending which culture I was living in.  It is like that too when I am painting.  I'll have to admit though, it is much easier making the switch back to the left brain side of thinking than it is getting into the right creative side.  But once there, it is wonderful!!

Mini abstract painting with patchworks of soft colors on a textured surface.  I initial these small abstracts on the side in order to give them more versatility for displaying.  I rotate the images once they are photographed, which helps me in finding the strongest compositional direction.  The decision can often times be a difficult one in that there may be several different strong placements.  My decision is based on what I feel to be the best view.  With the initials on the side of these mini's, collectors have a choice in how to hang the artwork and an option in changing them later to refresh the display.  Also, they can be arranged in a group and rotated to create new interest.

It just worked out!  The original idea was for this one to be a vertical with itsy bitsy shapes of color playing the center stage.  It grew from there and similar but larger shapes were added to the sides. Love working with blue and orange complementary colors.  It turned out to be a much stronger composition as a horizontal and I could see....

Small buildings/houses on the edge of a sea, reflecting their shapes and colors into the water.
