The Touch....Modern Abstract Rendering "The Creation of Adam"

The Touch
Acrylic on 24" x 36" x 1.5" gallery canvas
Commissioned (SOLD)

I was asked to paint an abstract rendering of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel painting of the "Creation of Adam" (Man) for a friend as a commissioned work.  There were only a few requirements... the colors.. black, white, grey, brown and a bit of red and still be able to recognize the image.  Other than that... I was set free to express.  I began with realism and then moved into the background with blues and green. Then came the time, as with most every abstract, of taking that risk... knowing that it is either going to make the painting or not.  It is a step of faith.

The painting spoke to me as I was working on it and then later as a completed work I have sat back to just ponder on so many levels as to it's original meaning and how it relates today.  It is a special work that I am sure will have it's own special message for Rhonda as well as for every person who views it.  For me it has spoken deeply about the importance of relationships.  Man was created to be in a relationship with God the creator of the universe.  Of course as usual we messed it up by our own desires and were separated from our creator.  The God of the universe then reached out again sending us his Son, Jesus Christ to create new life in all who believe in him.  He has been and his continuing to touch us for all time! It is important that we reach out and touch others with this light that brings life and meaning to this world.

For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:6
