layer by layer

Super Moon
Acrylic on 30" x 40" canvas

SOLD

Update: "Super Moon" sold and will be hung and paired alongside a fireplace as verticals with another painting of mine "Simple Things".  This is why I've taken to initialing my paintings on the side rather than the front as it offers more flexibility in how they are displayed.

Layering, layering and layering was what I did with this one.  I took pictures as I painted beginning with the first marks up to the finished work.  Usually, it doesn't work out for me to do that because I will become so focused on painting that I will forget to take the photographs. This time, though, I knew that I wanted to use them for a local workshop that I would be teaching at. Basically, I just wanted everyone to be able to see how much a painting can change and that it is ok. The title came as I happened to glance up at it one day and saw a moon. See it?!  Hopefully, that doesn't ruin it for anyone as it's not really about a moon, but about arranging and creating a beautiful space.

Here in Missouri the leaves will be reaching their beautiful fall color peak this next week. That is what this painting reminds me with all the warmth and brilliance of Fall. It is a large, large painting measuring 48" x 48" which will make for a wonderful size with gorgeous colors on someones wall. I'm excited for who will own it ....maybe you?!!

The first image is "Halcyon" a commissioned piece created using compositional and color ideas from several other paintings of mine.  I painted "Stormy" (second image) soon after finishing the commissioned work.  I find it interesting how the one influenced the next one.  Both of these were done several months ago...little behind on my posting. oops.

Inspirations. I was asked to create a painting using an orange and black color palette for a local show to celebrate the flight of the Monarch butterfly. I believe every artist must have a color that they stay away from as well as one that is pretty much always the go to. Orange is not at all a preferred color of mine. Personally, I just find it difficult to work with. Pink is my mix.  I was not in the least inspired to work with orange. BUT, I said yes and took it on as a challenge.  Fallish.
