It's approaching the end of the year and I've had about 20 smaller canvases that I have felt as if I should really be using them up.  Also, I like being able to offer smaller paintings for collectors and my inventory in this category has not had much to choose from lately.  There's definitely a shifting of gears, a slowing down when working on a small canvas.  I know it's sounds weird as it's still the same abstract style yet to me it is more difficult to work than a larger surface.  Perhaps it's because it's not really about the size of a canvas but more about  the concept of creating and designing space.  Should these little ones be priced the same as a larger painting? Just a thought. For now, this is where I'm at!

Thankfulness.  I try to remember to offer up praises of thanksgiving as I go through each day. The little things.  This time of year, I believe we tend to look at the year as a whole in thinking about what we are most thankful for. Artistically, I am fortunate to have had a wonderful year for selling my paintings. Creating and using the gift I have been given is important to me, but without you I would soon run out of storage space.  Thankful for those who take an interest,  purchase and collect my abstract paintings. Thank you, SO much!!

Minimalist Abstract Painting "New Horizon" by Elizabeth Chapman

"New Horizon"
Acrylic on 10" x 10" canvas

Available

To purchase from my Etsy store, click: HERE

This is very much a minimalist piece for me.  It seems as if I've been attracted to painting more in this type of style lately. Nothing wrong with that. Ok to change it up, right?! This painting was worked over several painting sessions. For me it can be very difficult to cover large areas of underlying color, as I LOVE color so much and see every single square inch as beautiful.  I fall in love too quickly!
Anyway, I do really love the final version of this painting!!

My paintings can also be viewed and purchased from my website: HERE

Tis the season to work on small paintings.  I have found myself to be caught up in business lately or maybe it's just plain procrastinating. However way, I find working on small paintings to be manageable as I step in and out of the studio.  I've yet to post and list the completed ones. Today, I spent the morning underpainting and prepping small canvases. My small painting inventory was REALLY needing new additions.   They are being added to my Etsy store .

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven ... a time to dance.

Modern Abstract Paintings on small canvases, "Precipice", "Mountain", "Longview" by Elizabeth Chapman

"Precipice"
Acrylic on 10" x 10" canvas

"Mountain"
Acrylic on 10" x 10" canvas

"Longview"
Acrylic on 10" x 10" canvas

All three of these paintings are currently available from my website, Etsy store or Zatista.

It can be a difficult task to get back to work after having been away for awhile.  We just got back from a wonderful family vacation with daughters from A Beautiful Mess, and son from dorenchapman.com.
So how to get back in the creative mode...back to work.  Well, for starters...just go.  Don't feel as if you have to whip something up every time your in the studio.  There are a lot of other needed things that can be done when in the studio when your not painting.   Today, I begun by applying a light varnish to some paintings that were completed several weeks ago. (these have already been listed) I always photograph before applying varnish as it prevents having to work with any glares. I use a gloss varnish that is applied lightly as I don't care for a glossy finish.

Thankfully, I had these three paintings that were finished and listed several weeks ago ready to be posted. They were painted together in several sessions layering and building up surface texture. They very much look as if they could go together as one piece, a triptych. I am really hoping that they will sell that way, but they could be purchased as separate pieces.

Now, to find what else needs to be done in here..... perhaps tomorrow back to painting or who knows, maybe today!

Modern Abstract Mixed Media Abstract "Posie" by Elizabeth Chapman

'Posie'
Mixed Media/Acrylic on 16" x 20" canvas

Available

Gotta love it!!

I'm listing this one as a mixed media although it is 99% acrylic. In the top right hand corner there are various types of papers that were applied to the canvas before I began painting. They have created some nice texture. Click on the photo for a larger pic or use the zoom feature in my website gallery.
