it is good.

Tetrad
Acrylic on 18"H x 14"W heavy paper
Available

Worked on this one simultaneously while painting "Innermost" from a few post back.  Each new painting is a challenge in itself.  They say that artist's are people who are easily bored. True. That's why we have a need to be making things. Creating an abstract painting keeps me engaged and focused on the piece until it is completed.  How do I know it is finished? It's that aha moment, this is good or wow which for some reason tends to occur just as you thought it would not. This is where perseverance pays off. With some paintings this moment will come together rather quickly, whereas others are may take a time of being contemplated over.

a yearly tradition.

Sole
Acrylic on 24" x 24" x 1.5" canvas
Available

SOLD

In love with a single flower plus bud in this green vase.  This was painted from a still life set up from the annual peonie blooms in our back yard.  It is meant to be an abstract capturing more of the essence or the gesturally feel of the floral than a realistic representation.  Different this year in that I chose to work from a single stem rather than a bouquet.  Just changing it up a bit…and challenging myself.

less color.

Innermost
Acrylic on 24" x 36" wrap canvas

SOLD

If you care to take a look at the 2010 version of Innermost you will find there us been a change!  An update, a revision, a redo or whatever you want to call revisiting an older painting.  As the layers of acrylic gesso and paint were built up with a palette knife my thoughts where captivated by the beauty of subtleties.  The mixing of whites into the existing colors creating such soft tones of color and texture.  Less color for a change.

making art from junk.

05-07-14
Acrylic on 4" x 6" paper
Available

A friend of mine remarked to me yesterday as to how much I've been producing since moving into the new studio.  I laughed! Then explained to her that these mini's where all painted several months ago, but never posted until now.  I am painting again..somewhat….but honestly procrastinating big time.  I'm probably just using the new studio as an excuse.  Truth being, big time creative block that I am working through.

Yesterday, I agreed to go with some artist friends to a junk yard in a near by town. One friend is a photographer and the other one takes all kinds of junk and creates the most beautiful 3-D pieces. I was totally out of my realm. I arrived there with my camera, looked around and thinking "OKAY, what do I do?"

Soon, I was busy taking photos and having the most wonderful time.  The challenge was in thinking of all this junk as lines, shapes, values and textures that just needed to be formatted into a design.  Looking through my viewfinder I made arrangements.  I even made a game out of it…rule being that you couldn't move anything.  These are just a few of some of my favorite shots.

love blooms.

Love Blooms
Acrylic on 24" x 30" x 1.5" canvas
2013 Original
Available

In the new studio painting this morning on the annual peonie floral painting.  Originally, I did not plan for this each year, but it seems to have now become a tradition.  The inspiration comes from a floral bush that we have in our background that blooms each Spring around the middle of May.  For the last six years I have brought in a bouquet of cut flowers and painted a floral abstract.  I was working this morning on this year's painting which reminded of the one I did last year, "Love Blooms" which was a full bouquet, now available from my Etsy shop: HERE.

back to work.

Changes.  I know as artists we LOVE them, but then again maybe not.  I spent a little time yesterday morning painting in the new studio, but didn't stay there long.  It is a wonderful space to work in and I am thankful for it…just doesn't feel like home yet. That along with not feeling inspired lately equals not much work getting done.  I have learned from past experience that inspiration is not something to wait around for as it will emerge once you begin the work. "The first stroke can be the hardest" can really be SO true.

Thinking I might have to resort to making a rigid schedule that I have stick to for awhile in order to get back into the swing of it.  Anyway, perhaps I'll get to that, tomorrow OR maybe the next day.

For now, there is plenty of work to be viewed: HERE!

moved in.

04-30-14
Acrylic on 4" x 6" heavy 156lb paper

Several post ago I wrote about moving my studio from the upstairs back down the stairs.  Well,  here I am…moved in!! yay.  It will take time to get everything in place, but at least for now it's in workable shape. It has taken a few weeks as we have also been painting the kitchen and the old studio room.  Needless to say, there's not been the time nor the space for my painting.  The mini abstracts that I have been posting where actually painted last month.  There was a series of fifteen.  Most where painted together in pairs and therefore complement each other with a few singles. It wasn't planned out, but these have certainly worked out well for posting/listing during this transitional time.

On the easel today is the start of a painting...

….nesting in my new space!

accent with pink.

More pink.  I have had with several commissions been asked not to use ANY pink in a painting. Understandable when purchasing a painting for the home.  Men tend to shy away from it being a girlie color.  As an artist, I love the effect that pink has, works well with so many colors and especially fond of it as an accent color. It speaks!

…. for those of you who love pink.

Somebody else also LOVES pink! We hung work last week at Systematic Savings Bank downtown Springfield, Missouri for the Friday Night Artwalk.  A very talented face painting artist painted a requested PINK bunny on Penny's face.  We spent a wonderful evening greeting and talking art with the local crowd.
