mishmosh....

Pastiche
Acrylic on 8" x 8" x 3/4" wrap canvas
Available

Mini abstract painting with patchworks of soft colors on a textured surface.  I initial these small abstracts on the side in order to give them more versatility for displaying.  I rotate the images once they are photographed, which helps me in finding the strongest compositional direction.  The decision can often times be a difficult one in that there may be several different strong placements.  My decision is based on what I feel to be the best view.  With the initials on the side of these mini's, collectors have a choice in how to hang the artwork and an option in changing them later to refresh the display.  Also, they can be arranged in a group and rotated to create new interest.

More mini's can be viewed, HERE

divine...

Divine
Mixed Media on 9" x 11" heavy watercolor paper
Ready to frame

May be purchased directly from my Web Gallery: HERE

Soon it will be time to get back to those large, large canvases.  Whether  large or small, I am always looking for the flow of the painting.  This one was begun with soaking wet 156lb watercolor paper.  Gesturally marks where then made with a black watercolor pencil.  The first layer of color was applied with watercolors while the paper was still wet. Chinese white was used in the white areas to soften the pencil marks.  Acrylics were later over laid to pop a few colors, creating more depth.

When is a painting done?  That can sometimes be difficult to determine.  I really like the simplicity and all the white in this one as it is, so have just decided to leave it alone and call it finished. Seemed to be the flow...

Have a divine weekend!

a wonderful surprise....

Entree
Mixed Media on 9" x 11" heavy watercolor paper
Ready to be framed

SOLD

A total surprise as I opened my email and saw that this painting had sold.  It had just been listed to my WEB GALLERY the night before.  This is where I always place my work first.  Once it has been photographed, a title has been chosen and a price decided then it is ready.  There are some days I may place more than one painting in my online gallery.  From there I will choose paintings to use as blog post and list on other various sites.  This one never had that opportunity!

I was able to package and ship on that same day.  I then contacted Liz to let her know what a surprise and notify her that "Entree" was on it's way along with her tracking number.  Later, I received a reply that she's always watching for my work, saw this one, it spoke to her and click...she bought it!  (she is one of those who have opted to join the email list and be notified of new work) Liz is one of my repeat collectors in which I am very thankful and appreciative, as well as all of you who have purchased or simply enjoyed viewing the work online.

Many times I do hear back from the buyer in which they might describe to me where the abstract has been hung, what it has meant to them, how much better in real it appears...and sometimes even pics are sent.  I often think about many of the paintings that have sold in the past and the homes that they have gone to, where they are hanging, who might be viewing them, etc.,   It brings me much joy knowing that my work is being used as a blessing to others.  All glory and praise to God.

daily works...

Lustrous
Acrylic on 8" x 8" x 3/4" wrap canvas
Available

I like being able to offer a variety of different sizes to choose from for those interested in collecting a work for their home or office.  For me, it can be be almost more difficult working on a mini canvas than the wide open space of a large canvas.  The change from large to small or vice a versa has always been good, though.  Lately, I have found myself working on more than one painting at a time.  I have found this to give me a break and a fresh perspective from a particular work and it seems to help loosen me up into the creative mode.  However way, always hoping to create works that are beautiful and will be enjoyed by others.  Available works can be seen in my Web Gallery: HERE.

....we've also been growing food to be enjoyed!  yum yum We have been up EARLY each morning  putting about an hour of work into this garden.  Now, the harvest has begun!  There are cucumbers, green beans, peppers, LOTS, LOTS of squash and just yesterday the first red tomato!  It's been, I believe the best garden we've ever had as usually what begins enthusiastically ends by mid-summer when we are overwhelmed  and it's hot. The secret has been keeping after it, doing a little each day.

Much like painting!

Thought you might enjoy a few garden pics:

reflections...

Portside
Acrylic on 9" x 11" heavy watercolor paper,
Ready to be framed

Thankful!

take a break today and reflect on all that you can be thankful for....

It just worked out!  The original idea was for this one to be a vertical with itsy bitsy shapes of color playing the center stage.  It grew from there and similar but larger shapes were added to the sides. Love working with blue and orange complementary colors.  It turned out to be a much stronger composition as a horizontal and I could see....

Small buildings/houses on the edge of a sea, reflecting their shapes and colors into the water.

What do you see?

summer expressions....

Union

Mixed Media on 8"W x 10"H heavy watercolor paper
Ready to frame

SOLD

I am calling this one mixed media as it is a combination of watercolor and acrylic paint.  However, it is mostly light layers of acrylics over the initial blocking in with watercolors. Gesturally drawing with a black watercolor pencil was also a part of the foundation.  Later, as the painting progressed the pencil was dipped in water for a softer point and lines were pulled out, giving more definition. Love how a line can have various pressure points creating various values and in turn more interest.

A union created by the bringing together of various elements of line and color.

from the Ozarks....

Verdure

Mixed media  on 10.5"H  x 8.5"W  heavy watercolor paper
Framing required

An abstract landscape that I believe is a reflection of the wet and cool summer we have been having here in the Ozarks.  I am imagining the purple to be a native Missourian perennial herb that seems to be growing everywhere.  They are beautiful!!

This small abstract was begun on Arches 156lb. acid free watercolor paper, cut from a huge roll that I purchased earlier this year.  Appears there will be many more paper paintings to come! I seemed to have developed a technique on the paper that begins with watercolors on wet, wet paper.  Once dry, I will layer with more watercolors and then at some point, acrylics begin to be mixed in...  Lastly, I accented with dry pastels in the upper half creating more details and depth.

Once this little jewel is matted and framed it is going to be like looking through a window into a picturesque country side.  ....and then, when it is hanging on the wall, it will make the perfect escape!!

fondness...

Ardor

Mixed media on 20"W x 22"H 156lb. Arches watercolor paper
Ready to frame

SOLD

Available for purchase from my Web Gallery: HERE

The title that was chosen for this painting by my husband, is close to my heart.  Unknowingly, he had been working on it while I was busy creating. When he defined it for me, as a strong fondness...i thought 'it's absolutely perfect' , as if he had known what I was thinking about while painting, but knew he couldn't have.

This time, a creative block was broken by returning to my first love and reason for painting/creating.  I had been procrastinating, much, much.  I was gently reminded that i have been given a gift and it is time to get back to work. Faith is worked out in action. My part is to do the work and to trust God for the rest.

I was also reminded of a verse that I have stuck on my bulletin board, pinned there back in 2008 when I began this new path.  It reads, "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubabel's hand." Zechariah 4:10

Returning to the studio to paint this time was more of an act of obedience.  Not really because I wanted to, but because I needed to. This painting is a visual expression of the closeness that I felt in connecting and being a part of His creative process. God is love. It truly is a gift of which I am very thankful for.

The beauty is not always in the end product, but in the process as well.

Ardor...the perfect title for expressions of His love.

Pure joy!
