Abstract painting, Vim, ORIGINAL Contemporary Art by Elizabeth Chapman

'Min Vim'
Acrylic on 8" x 8" x 3/4"

This fun little abstract 8" x 8" was a special request.  The larger abstract from which the request was initiated measures 24" x 30" x 1.5" and is available for purchase from me.  To see it please view my website: HERE

I'm working on pulling out of a creative block.  I have posted before about embracing this time as it is part of the process, but it is so difficult when you want to be working, working, working.  This morning  I pulled a book out of my library that I first read many years ago and have since read probably a dozen times.  Each time that I re-read it, it's as if it has something new to tell me.  As I opened it this morning I began reading where I had left off months ago.

"In most cases an integral part of giftedness from God is not only the mechanical ability to paint or sing or dance but a deeper call.  This call can be seen as part of an aesthetic value system, a system that helps determine what is beautiful and what is not."  Scribbling in the Sand, Christ and Creativity by Michael Card. p. 80

"Mini" Abstract Painting, 'Flash' ORIGINAL Contemporary 8" x 8" x 3/4" by Elizabeth Chapman

'Flash'
Acrylic on 8" x 8" x 3/4" gallery wrap canvas
Ready to hang!
$50.00

Lots of surface texture....I am up early this morning working on small abstract paintings.  In all honesty these little ones are more difficult than they appear.  You would think..."small...that couldn't take too long."  I don't totally understand it,  but for me it does seem much easier to work on a larger space.  I do believe it is a good exercise to work in various sizes.  It also gives the person who is not able to purchase a larger work the opportunity to buy a smaller work.  They can speak volumes in a small space or be collected and displayed on a wall.

Abstract Painting "Gleam" 8" x 8" ORIGINAL Contemporary Art by Elizabeth Chapman

'Gleam'
Acrylic on 8" x 8" x 3/4" canvas, $50.00

Available by contacting me: elizabethchapman@artlover.com

Small yet bold....the majority of these small abstracts are painted with a palette knife.  I may begin with a brush but somehow most always end up with a palette knife in my hand layering and mixing paint on the canvas. This one has some embellishment done with the caps from tubes of paint printed into the wet paint creating the circles.

Contemporary Abstract Original Painting, "Prelude" Original Art by Elizabeth Chapman

'Prelude'
Acrylic 35" x 60" x 1.5" canvas

Thank you Ava!

SOLD

Believe.... there is an excitement as I begin a new painting in believing that this is going to be a work of art and that it is going to be loved and make it's way to someone's home.  Of course, unless it's a commissioned piece I really don't know this for sure....it is a walk of faith.  The Lord watches over us and I believe smiles and is pleased in the work that we do....whatever that might be....when we are placing our trust in Him.   I began this journey working as an artist four years ago and through it there have been days of doubts, fear, frustrations, etc., that is when my eyes are turned to a verse that has hung on my studio wall from the start.  For you see it's not in the end product or the success achieved at the end of the day, but the attitude that we have as we begin a work.

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubabel's hand.  Zechariah 4:10

To see the way beginning a person could go back to the first days of this blog.  and one of the first large abstracts.
