Titles ...... my wonderful husband is always so much help to me when it comes to titling my artwork.  The painting can sometimes come so easily for me, as it did with this one.  But, then when it is at the point of coming up with a title I could work for days and days ............ and still not have a good title.  So, he has done it again!  Convergence.... the bringing together of contrasting colors.

My husband thought that this painting would be a GREAT wedding present. To him the abstract looks like a coming together of the two circular objects, a drawing near to each other. This has a lot to say about unity and two becoming one as in a marriage. You know, when two hearts beat as one!

Supple, Modern Art, Contemporary Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

'Supple'

SOLD

I am just finishing up with this one and have absolutely loved working with this limited cool palette.  As I am posting this one I just looked up to look at Supple and it hanging upside down.  But, I must say it appears to be working quite well that way too.  Often, one of the most difficult decision with these abstracts is determining the strongest viewpoint for display.  This one has two horizontals and a vertical that work quite well.  You be the judge!

"Refuge" Abstract Palette Knife Painting, Original Contemporary Art by Elizabeth Chapman

'Refuge'

Acrylic on 24" x 30" x 1.5" canvas

Inspiration came from a view through our front window of the bare trees against the cold wintry sky.  I am so thankful that in our modern age we are able to enjoy the elements of nature without being exposed to them.  Provision has been given to us were a place of safety and protection can be found, our refuge.

This is a palette knife painting and is different for me as I was working with arches representing the trees as they crisscross. My husbands take on it was that it looked like mosaic stain glass in a cathedral and this added to the feeling of a sanctuary or place of refuge. If you are new to my site and would like to view my complete portfolio, it may be viewed in my web gallery.

Time management and the importance of a routine is most definitely something that I am needing to work on.  Having read this blogspot by Paulette Install has helped me to become more aware of this.  Click here to read more.  I have nine LARGE canvases sitting in the studio with two more on the way, so I am realizing that I need to become much more disciplined with my work habits.  Picked up alot of good tips from her post.  Hope to be posting the first of these next!!

Inner Child, Modern Art, Contemporary Abstract Painting by Missouri Artist Elizabeth Chapman

Inner Child

Acrylic on 30" x 40" x 1.5" canvas
SOLD

" All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
Pablo Picasso

Inner Child, one of my favorite paintings, has recently sold to Brunswick LLC, a corporate business in Dallas, Texas.  I feel so very honored that they have chosen to use this painting as a focal point in their newly opened office.  The image was also used as the banner center on the Daily Abstract Painters blog.

This painting was going in a totally different direction and one in which I was struggling.  At a certain point, I let go of my expectations and went with the flow of the painting.  It is special to me because this moment is where I first learned of being in the sweet spot.  This is a place where the self critic within is no longer in control and you are trusting your own instincts, much like a child.   The music was playing and I danced as the final touches in pink where being smacked on when my husband walked into my studio.  Startled, I jumped....as I was in another world!
