"Gold Rush".... Modern Contemporary Expressionistic Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Gold Rush
Acrylic on 24" x 48" gallery wrap canvas

SOLD

I've been working quite extensively lately on larger canvases in preparation for a show at Hawthorn's in May. (I posted "Rich"a palette knife painting several days ago) This one is much like one titled "Concentre" that sold there last fall.  There is a lot of layering color and a play with shapes as I am working in this manner.  This one is now hanging on our revolving wall! .....so we will get to enjoy it for a bit.

"She Bang"..... Modern Expressionistic Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

"She Bang"
Acrylic on 20" x 16" canvas
Available for purchase by clicking here.

Well, I was up VERY early this morning.... 3 a.m .. Gigi our pug had to go out.. and thanks to my wonderful husband who so graciously gets up to take care of this task I did not have to get up.  But anyway, couldn't sleep after that so decided to make some changes to my blog.   I am not a graphics person nor technically minded.... so this is it.  What do you think of the change? .... and then there is  "She Bang"  a painting that came to together rather quickly... just for fun.... no preconceived ideas...lots of movement.... a dance of colors and shapes.  Doesn't it make you feel like dancing?!

"Rich".... Modern Contemporary Expressionistic Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Rich
Acrylic on a gallery wrap canvas
24" x 36" (1.5")

SOLD

This is one of the larger paintings that I have recently completed.  It was painted with many layers of color and a palette knife.  I work rather quickly when I paint these as I am mixing colors directly on the canvas and the acrylics tend to dry quickly.

"Birthsong"..... Modern Contemporary Floral Abstract Painting by.... Elizabeth Chapman

Birthsong
Acrylic on 18" x 24" canvas
NFS

I painted this on the day that our first grand daughter Penelope Bloom was born.  It was a very exciting morning as we were all there to welcome her in.  I later came home that afternoon and this painting was the result of all those spilled out emotions.  She is now 3 1/2 months old and most beautiful!!!

This painting has been speaking to me lately about new beginnings just as in the birth of a baby,  the celebrating of a birthday or even in the beginning of each day.  Last night we all came together to celebrate my father-in-law, great grandpa "Jackie's" 82nd birhthday.    A new beginning.....

"Darkest Before The Dawn"...... Modern Contemporary Expressionistic Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Acrylic on set of two gallery wrap canvases
Darkest Before  24" x 30"
The Dawn    24" x 24"

Commissioned (Sold)

This painting came about as a commissioned work for a person  who contacted me with an unusual request.  She had been viewing my work over the past year and believed that I would be able to visually express a time of heart brokenness and struggling  that she had recently experienced.

As an abstract expressionist I am most often instinctively expressing and pouring my feelings on to the canvas through colors, lines, textures etc.. bringing life in a visual form to the canvas that will hopefully speak to others.  I have been asked before to create works for others based on request for color schemes, size etc, but never have I been asked to express another person's feelings.

As I read the struggles that she had been through my heart just sank and I was able to understand but I don't know that I was honestly able to feel for her.  In these initial stages I began tossing ideas around that were superficial in nature.  Unknowingly, the circumstances that followed in my own life would put me in a position to truly feel a time of suffering that I could relate with.

And so.... I have come to have some powerful connections and feelings with this painting.  What I have learned is that no matter how deep or how dark it may seemingly feel always look for the hope, the positive (no matter how small it may seem) and hang it to that... and in time it will grow and flourish in to joy!  "It is always the darkest just before the dawn."

The first painting represents those times of struggling or suffering with a glimmer of light and hope being found in the upper left hand corner.  The second painting represents the light of hope overcoming and though there is still some darkness left, it is not all consuming.  The paintings together can be seen as a night city scape with a connecting bridge. I see that bridge as the spirit of Jesus Christ bringing HOPE to all who believe.

The paintings were photographed together but  I would display them on a wall with at least an inch of space between the two. They are being prepared to be shipped to "Alaska"- Jenn.  Thank you Jenn for sharing! ... and I hope that they will speak to you as well.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.  Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  Phillippians 4:8

It's time to get busy again painting for a show at Hawthorn's coming up in May.  I've had a large canvas  on my easel waiting to be dressed in it's colors.   It's been on mind a lot... with many ideas being tossed around in my head.  We'll see what emerges......

Delgado
Acrylic on 16" x 20" canvas

Available for purchase from here or contact Elizabeth.

This painting was actually a two step process.  I spent quite a bit of time with the painting the first time around but was not completely happy with it.  The second time around I spent much time thinking about how to resolve it and then was able to walk in and complete it in a very short amount of time.  Very happy with it now!  What do you think?
