This is another painting from 'the hearts' series.... I am SOOOO looking forward to February and Valentine's Day!! This series began for me as way to provide a few paintings to help the Springfield Arts Council raise money for local art educational programs.  The first two paintings "Love" and "Love Frenzy" along with  many other "Hearts for the Arts" are up for bid until February 5th. If interested you can check out this link by clicking here.  I enjoyed doing the first two so well that I decided to continue with this as a series... 'Much Love' is the third one... and... next week...

"New Love"..... Abstract Expressionistic Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

'NEW LOVE'
Acrylic on 9" x 12" paper

This painting has a lot of thick paint and actual texture.  You can click on the image for a closer look.  As with the majority of my abstract paintings I began this one without any preconceived idea.  Many colors were being used which eventually lead to the gray and a scrapping through of the underlying colors giving it a 'scratch art' type of effect.  Various tools including brush, palette knife and roller were used.  When I get into one of these it seems like any object that is lying around might become a tool to be used.  I finished it off with a gesturally line as I began to see the image emerge. If you are interested in this painting it can be purchased from my web gallery by clicking here... or contact me here.  Enjoy!!

"Instinct"...Modern Floral Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Instinct
Mixed Media on 5" x 7" paper

SOLD

To purchase contact: Elizabeth

This painting began as a realistic floral watercolor painting. (my realistic florals can be seen by clicking here)
After having already previously painted a realistic, I became a bit bored and wandered off into the abstract realm.  Later, I came back in with a more gesturally feel to the realistic image of the floral photo I was working with. All this happened without my giving it much thought, just following my instincts.  Mixed media materials include watercolor, gouache and acrylic paint.  A fun piece!!

"New Day" .... Modern Expressionistic Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Acrylic on 5" x 7" canvas panel
Purchase by clicking here.

Well, I haven't posted in over a week due to an upper back muscle strain,  EXCRUCIATING..... OMG.   I have not yet picked up a paintbrush (this is a previous painting) and to be honest I even wondered if I would be painting again.   It amazes me how the abstract paintings really have a language of their own.  If you scroll down to the last post and read- "Asleep" was speaking about a time for healing.  The process is slow going, but going.... and just like the buds the desire to paint is VERY much there.... and that is a blessing!   It's a new day......

"Asleep"..... Modern Contemporary Expressionistic Abstract Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Acrylic on 5" x 7" canvas panel
"Asleep" can be purchased from my web gallery by clicking here.

Snowed again last night!  Looking out the window at the bare white covered trees that seem to be asleep makes me think about times of healing and restoration.  As they are resting now, in another month or so.... they will begin to bud and bloom again.... bright and beautiful!  There is also a beauty to be found during this time of the season knowing that this is the way nature works.  Knowing that beneath the snow on the leafless trees there are buds ready to emerge when the time is right.  Realize that when things are not going like we think they should... still they are going..... For everything there is a season...
