Sugar Kisses.... Abstract Expressionistic Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Sugar Kisses
Acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
30" x 40" (1.5")

SOLD

Available for purchase from my web gallery by clicking here or contact: Elizabeth

A very girlie painting!!  Christmas colors and feelings was the intention for this painting, but instead the influence of having baby Penelope Bloom presently living with us is what emerged.  An abstract painting with a feminine flair that everyone will appreciate.

The Mission..... Abstract Expressionism Painting by Elizabeth Chapman

Acrylic on 24" x 48" gallery wrap canvas (1.5" depth)

SOLD

This is that time of year when we are all sooooo busy...... with all the preparations, shopping, gift exchanges, parties, baking, decorating...and .... well you know how it is.  I did stay up one night to paint a large painting that I will be sharing soon, (haven't photographed it yet) and can't hardly wait to post it!! This is one that I did last summer, an oldie, but..... it's been on my mind lately and thought it would be appropriate to share my thoughts as I had finished and stood back to view this painting while it was still on the easel. Given the time of year that we are in, it serves as areminder of the reason for the season.

The painting was completed in two sessions with the first being an underpainting.   Other than the color scheme, I approached this painting with absolutely NO IDEA of its outcome.  As I was listening to music my hand literally danced across the canvas, as  I followed each new idea that popped into my head.  To me this is such a gift... to be able to be a part of the creative process.

I stood back from the easel... and  I immediately saw a manger scene in a city scape.  I have pondered much about this painting since then, but my first thought was how this babe "Jesus" came and was born in a homeless shelter to live a life even to death in the lowliest of conditions.  Why would the  the God of the universe with all His riches choose to live this way?  Perhaps one of those reasons was to leave us with an example to follow....

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.  Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.  Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross.  Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2: 5-11

This painting has been a favorite and I always love hearing how a work of art speaks personally to an individual.  For me, especially through all the business lately, it  has helped to focus my thoughts on the real reason for the season and the celebration of Christmas...love... may it help you as well!!!

"Love Frenzy" .... Contemporary Expressionistic Abstract Painting by ELizabeth Chapman

LOVE FRENZY
Acrylic on 11" x 14" canvas (3/4"), painted sides
$75.00/unframed
SOLD

This is "Love Frenzy" the second painting in the new "heart series".  The color palette that I had intended to use was more in line with the earth tones that I have been using lately.  I was going to experiment with some blues and browns that I have been observing here in the outdoors of the Ozarks during the winter months.  BUT, I think that is going to come out on a large canvas that is prepared with an underpainting of Sienna and waiting on the easel. hm.. maybe there's the title of that one! "Sienna"...  we will see.
.....anyway, as I got into this color began emerging and so I went with it.  In the end, it reminded of another favorite painting that you can see by clicking here.  "Color Frenzy" recently sold through Hawthorn Galleries to a collector in Colorado.  ..... and if you are reading my blog I would like for you to know that I THANK YOU! very much , and I hope that it is enjoyed as much as I enjoyed creating it!

I am very excited about new large canvases that are coming in- today!! and my color paints are stocked!!
I am providing opportunities to purchase my paintings as they are completed on my blog most usually through pay pal. They can also be found by going to my web gallery, although the majority of the larger ones have been sold, my intent is to begin to restock this gallery.  I can also be contacted through email if a different arrangement needs to be made..... AND I am available for special orders!!  Enjoy!

LOVE....Contemporary Expressionistic Abstract Painting.... by Elizabeth Chapman

LOVE

Acrylic on 11" x 14" canvas, $45.00
SOLD

"LOVE" may be purchased through pay pal on my web gallery by clicking here. (and scrolling down) or contact Elizabeth

If you have followed my blog at any length you have by now recognized that I am into changes.  The latest abstracts are in these warm tones and working with a layering process, but still in an abstract expressionistic style.  The only preconceived idea with these have been the color schemes.  I just begin (sometimes this is the hardest step) and then follow a dialogue that occurs between the painting and myself until completion.
Have a lovely weekend!!

Tonality.... Contemporary Abstract Painting

Tonality
Acrylic on 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas
Set of three ($575.00)

This is the last completed work that is currently being featured at Hawthorn's Gallery this December,  a set of three panels titled "Tonality".  To see the other two simply scroll down. Originally it was to be just this one painting.  I then liked the contrast created by the second painting next to the first, but it seemed to need a third panel for closure. ..... and so then there was Tonality I, II & III. These are currently being displayed vertically as seen on this blog, but can also be displayed horizontally.  If interested in this work you may contact Kylee at Hawthorn's Gallery or email me.

....something new.... TONALITY III... Abstract Painting

Tonality III

Acrylic on 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Hawthorn's last night for the first Friday Night Art Walk and the opening of this new December show.  ...... and now it's time to move on!... so I thought I would share some of the newest works.  Tonality III is one of three panels of this series that are being displayed as a set.  I have posted the last one first and will share the middle panel next, so that  later in scrolling down on the blog they will be in order.  I've been working with layering colors and earth tones and of course always thinking about good design.  I'm excited about this new technique and color scheme!! Hope you enjoy them....

It's Friday Night Art Walk tonight!.... opening night .... with SECOND ACT

Second Act
Acrylic on 36" x 48" gallery wrap canvas

Unfortunately, I don't feel the photo does this work justice.  My favorite part is the right bottom corner with all the reds.  In real it looks really rich with so many variations but the photo blends them together.
Anyway.... I've been showcasing a few of the pieces this week that will be in this show.... which opens tonight!!!... with this being my second solo show at Hawthorn's I thought this would be an appropriate piece to showcase today.... Second Act.

I work intuitively most the time that I paint.  It's a beautiful magical moment when you can leave the critic within, engaging and trusting the inner child.  If you like this painting as seen here on line you would absolutely LOVE it in real.  Available for purchase from Hawthorn's Gallery in Springfield, Mo.
